Tyler Gordon Quist, age 34, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025 in Boise Idaho, concluding his short but remarkable life.
He was born on March 3, 1991 to Hugh Kent Quist and Teresa Ann Parks (Danner). He was the third of four children in the family. He had two older sisters, Amanda and Chelsea, and one younger brother, Garrett. He lived his entire life in two homes within the Oregon Trail subdivision, attending Trailwind Elementary, Les Bois Junior High, and Timberline High School.
At the age of 4, Tyler was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This resulted in a lifetime of physical challenges and the continued weakening of his muscles. Though life was certainly challenging for Tyler in many unique ways he was always very good at making Lemonade. He was able to walk until the age of 8, when he then began using wheelchairs full time. He was extremely skilled at driving his big 450 lbs. power wheelchairs. Various technology and devices were able to prolong and enhance his quality of life (power wheelchairs, voice-controlled remotes, breathing ventilators, suction machines, percussive vests, cough-assist machines, alternating pressure pads, oxygen concentrators, monitors, etc.). Alexa would respond to his commands, and provide him with requested information and the ability to communicate with others.
He participated in many MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) activities such as MDA Camp, the Labor Day Telethon, and Fill-the-Boot.
He was a faithful member of the Church or Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints his entire life and loved being able to participate in church service and activities. One activity he was able to go on was a youth pioneer trek in Martin's Cove, Wyoming.
He was a smart, cheerful, and creative young man who loved giving gifts to others. During the last three years of his life, while being completely bed-ridden, he designed over 350 t-shirt designs. Of those designs, he purchased over 200 shirts that he gave to friends and family with most of them showcasing his humor.
What a journey his life has been. He is truly one of the strongest, most faithful, compassionate, and patient persons ever. He is our hero. His life and legacy will not be forgotten. It truly has been such a joy and a privilege to know him and to be around him.
Tyler was preceded in death by his Grandparents: Blaine Quist, Marie Knighton Quist, Robert Danner, Rex Parks, and June Williams Parks.
