Carl J. Redman, 86, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, departed this life on Sunday, November 23, 2025, in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. He was born on August 9, 1939, in Oliver, Indiana, to the late Carl Lee and Faye (Greene) Redman.
Carl graduated from Wadesville High School in 1957 and on October 15, 1960, married the love of his life, Judy (Saltzman) Redman.
Carl was actively involved in the agribusiness of Posey County. He worked for the Posey County Co-Op for 34 years and was the manager of the Store, Gas Station, Seed and Chemical Department. After retirement he would continue to work for the Co-Op in various capacities eventually reaching the 50-year service milestone. One of Carl's great accomplishments was the gas station built in the early 1980's. Carl oversaw the construction, opening and management of that facility that sold more than one tanker of fuel each day. Each of the areas that Carl oversaw at the Co-Op had unprecedented growth that led to a legacy of success that continues to this day at the Co-Op.
Carl extended his service to the agriculture community in Posey County through various community activities like the 4H where he was a member, sponsor and volunteer for many years. He received the 1981 FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer Award.
Carl was actively involved with athletics in Posey County and the State of Indiana. He was an IHSAA basketball referee for 17 years. Carl was an avid golfer, so much so that he designed and built a 9-hole course on the family farm that he named Mosquito Hollow! The traveling trophy for his annual tournament was a valued achievement. He is a member of the Mt. Vernon M-Club Hall of Fame. Carl was actively involved as a T-Ball and Little League coach and enjoyed bowling in multiple leagues over the years. He was an avid fan of all Cleveland sports teams, a love that he developed as a young boy when that was the only radio station that he could listen to games.
Additionally, after his retirement, Carl enjoyed working with the Posey County Council on Aging where he enjoyed driving local residents to appointments and playing cards with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; a daughter, Leah (EJ) Meier of Denver, Colorado; sons, Kevin (Sabrina) Redman and Jason (Rachel) Redman, both of rural Mt. Vernon; grandchildren: Kelsey Seessengood, Kayla (Tyler) Bishop, Randi (Thad) Sexton, Harli Evans (Andrew Knight) (Benton Evans), Carlton Redman and Emma Lockhart; great-grandchildren: Peyton Seessengood, Rylee Seessengood, Hadlee Evans, Graham Sexton, Brynlee Evans, Ava Bishop, Brooks Bishop, and Maylee Evans-Knight; brothers: Robert Redman of Wadesville and Marvin (Ruth) Redman, brother-in-law, Jerry (Sharon) Saltzman of New Harmony; Goddaughter, Diana Redman; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; along with a multitude of friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN 47620 with Pastor Troy DeKemper & Pastor Jim Allen officiating. A private graveside service will follow for the family.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Monday, December 1st, 2025 at the funeral home and from 10:00 am until 11:00 am service time on Tuesday.
The family would like to send their sincerest thanks to the staff at Mount Vernon Rehabilitation Center and Heart to Heart Hospice Care for the care and kindness they showed to Carl and their family during this time.
Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the M-Club, Mt. Vernon FFA, or Posey County Council on Aging.
