CARL STEVEN SHULLMAN – LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER, BROTHER, AND FRIEND
Carl Steven Shullman cherished his family and friends, and worked hard to provide a wonderful life for his wife and children. He had two successful careers, and he was always very giving of his time to others. He loved jazz and classical music, reading about history, and playing squash with his friends. He was incredibly smart, had the gift of gab, and loved to chat with people. He passed away at St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, on September 25th, 2022.
Carl Shullman was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 8, 1941, to Saul and Henriette Shullman. He grew up in New York City and attended the High School of Music and Art in New York. He fulfilled his undergraduate degree at the City College of New York and then received his MBA from Columbia University. He married Carole Jane Owens on September 4, 1971, and they spent 50 years of marriage together. He enjoyed a successful career in advertising, which brought his family to Michigan in 1983. He later became a Financial Advisor, and helped countless clients over 30 years in the business. He brought his son, Graham, into the business in 2006, and served as his mentor for 12 years.
Most important to Carl was his family. He was father to Graham and Katie. He adored their spouses, Laura Ragsdale and James Gerding. He was the grandfather to Henry James Gerding, Charlie Owens Shullman (deceased), Lillian Page Shullman, and Stella York Shullman. He was the brother of Eric Shullman (Susan), and he was a loving cousin and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Carl loved his family, his friends, and his clients. He loved talking to people about current events or history, and was always quick with a story and a laugh. He was a talented piano player, as well as a generous philanthropist who gave to many charitable causes. He served on the board of Homes for Autism for many years. In addition, he truly loved the Birmingham Athletic Club, serving on the board, playing tennis, watching his kids on the swim team, and playing squash with his friends.
The family will be putting together a celebration of his life in November, 2022, details TBD.
