Carl Henry Svendsen was born in Chicago, IL on March 8, 1933. As an infant, he was adopted by Henry Carl Alfred Svendsen and Florence MacDonald. He passed away on March 24, 2025, two weeks after he celebrated his 92nd birthday.
Carl was married to Natalie "Dolly" Svendsen on September 5, 1959. Dolly preceded Carl in death on the 18th of December 2023. Carl is survived by his four children: Paul (Terri), Donald (Rebecca), Richard (Michael), and Karla; as well as six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Carl graduated from Proviso East High School in 1951. After 25+ years serving the United States Postal Service, Carl retired in 1998.
Carl was an avid fisherman, journeying to Hayward, WI for annual fishing trips with his family. He was a passionate Chicago sports fan, supporting the Bears and Cubs through their wins and losses. A lesser known passion of Carl's was roller skating. A more widely known element about Carl was his loud, boisterous humor and ear-splitting Happy Birthday renditions. Carl will be sorely missed, and every placid Happy Birthday rendition will remind the family of his absence.
Carl will be buried at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum in Palatine, IL on May 10, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the LAM Foundation, an organization Carl felt strongly about. https://www.thelamfoundation.org/donate/ways-to-give/
