It is with a mix of sorrow and celebration that we announce the passing of Carl Taasaas, master storyteller, and skilled craftsman and outdoorsman, who left this world on December 19, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on July 1, 1937, in Comstock, MN, to Olaf & Ruth (Carlson) Taasaas, Carl lived a life full of laughter, adventure, and love. Carl was a true enthusiast, whether he was on a fishing trip in Canada, hunting, cleaning his gun collection, or honing his woodworking skills. Known for his quick wit and endless jokes, he could light up a room with his storytelling, often captivating family and friends alike. Should they suggest that they might have heard this one already he would respond, “not this ending!” His spirit shone bright on the golf course, and he was invited to test out Warrior golf clubs. He also shared countless cherished moments playing croquet at family gatherings, where Grandpa cheated, Floyd always won, and Carl talked through the whole game. He also had a knack for engaging in strong discussions, never hesitating to share his opinions with those who dared to differ.

After graduating from Comstock High School with the Class of 1955, Carl joined the United States Army, where he earned the distinction of being named Battalion Soldier of the Month. Upon returning home he farmed for a brief time. During the winters he started working at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo, ND. This led to a fulfilling career at St. Luke's, (MeritCare), beginning in the laundry room and rising through the ranks to become Boss of the Year for the Tri-State area, overseeing 1,000 employees and three managers. His dedication and leadership made a lasting impact on his workplace both through his computer innovations and the relationships he built with his coworkers.

Carl was also involved in his community as a faithful member of Comstock Lutheran Church, the Fargo American Legion, and the Fargo Elks club. In January 1992, Carl married the love of his life, Sharon, in the beautiful St. Luke's Chapel in Fargo, ND. Together, they cherished their trips to destinations like Jamaica and Puerto Vallarta, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Winters in Laughlin became a tradition for the couple, where they continued to enjoy the warmth and joy of their shared adventures.

Carl will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for the joy he brought to all of us.

Carl is survived by his loving wife Sharon; children: Sharon (Bob) Frey and Debra Taasaas; stepsons Barry (Theresa) Halverson and Brent (Tricia) Halverson; grandchildren: Hunter, Grace, Michelle, Melanie, Ashley, Rea, and Alisha; sister-in-law Betty Taasaas; along with 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Melvin Taasaas, Beverly (Virgil) Olson, and Dorothy (Floyd) Butenhoff.

Carl’s life will be honored and celebrated at a memorial service on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Comstock Lutheran Church in Comstock, MN, at 11:00 am with visitation to begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Jill Steichen will preside.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Comstock Lutheran Church.
