Dr. Carl Edward Weimer, Jr. M.D, beloved husband, father, brother, friend and proud West Virginian, passed from the arms of his loving wife and daughter and into the arms of the Lord at his home in Murrells Inlet, SC on July 26, 2024 at the age of 67.
Carl Edward "Ed" Weimer, Jr. was born in Cumberland, Maryland to Carl and Janet Weimer. He grew up in Maysville, West Virginia and as the youngest of 3 by nearly 14 and 16 years, he was raised not only by his parents, but also by his two sisters-Libby and Margie-and in his own words, he was "spoiled rotten".
After graduating as valedictorian from Petersburg High School, Ed went on to attend Fairmont State College before attending medical school. In 1982, he graduated from West Virginia Medical University and joined the United States Navy as a family doctor. There, Dr. Weimer completed his residency and met his future wife, Joanne, and her daughter, Kelly, while stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. Despite being an officer while she was enlisted, he pursued her with flowers and letters, and they began dating in 1986. However, as the story goes, what really made him fall in love with her were the letters she wrote to him everyday while he was deployed on the USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) performing humanitarian medical work in the Republic of the Philippines and elsewhere in the South Pacific. She wrote him scores of letters everyday, and in those words, he couldn't imagine a future without her. Rumor has it, he still has her letters stored somewhere in their house.
They were married on December 19, 1987 and in July 1988, Joanne gave birth to Ed's first born daughter, Kaitlyn "Kaitie-did"-which Kelly was ecstatic to finally become a big sister. Before he knew it, he was a daddy to 4 girls with the birth of Abigail Leigh in 1991 and Bridget Madison in 1996.
During his time in the Navy, he won the Navy Medicine Scholarship and with that he entered his Dermatology Residency becoming Chief Resident in his last year before graduating in 1992 from the Medical University of South Carolina. In 1995, Dr. Weimer went into private practice, eventually settling in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1996. Aside from raising 4 daughters, he would say he's most proud of creating Weimer Skin Clinic, P.A. in 2009 and always striving to be "the best possible dermatologist [he] could be."
A highly intelligent, brilliant, big hearted and fun-loving father, Ed Weimer devoted his life to his family, while Dr. Weimer devoted his life to his patients. He raised his girls with love, and taught them to work hard, aim high ("never be content with second best"), be kind to others, never give up, always do the right thing, and always WEAR SUNSCREEN! He was an avid reader and quite the wordsmith. Dr. Weimer prided himself on the importance of personalized, hand-written letters-something he emphasized to his daughters who took on the trait.
As a hunter and expert marksman, Ed taught all his girls to shoot-and shoot well might I add. His youngest, Bridget, even joined him hunting and became a hunter herself following in the footsteps of her daddy (literally, he always made his children step in his footsteps while walking through the woods so they wouldn't scare away the wildlife). He was an astronomy enthusiast and would love to go to the neighborhood park during celestial events and share his telescope and knowledge with all who were near-by and interested.
A true West Virginia man, Ed Weimer enjoyed spending time in the mountains, hunting, smoking a good cigar, and was happiest when visiting his family and friends in his hometown of Maysville, WV. He also enjoyed reading a good book (historical or fantasy were his favorites), cruising with his wife, and watching a good movie with his family, while his Aussie Doodle Girl, Nella-who he affectionately called "PeeShaw"-lounged in his lap. "Peeshaw" was his favorite term of endearment for puppy dogs.
His last wishes were to be laid to rest in the mountains of West Virginia with his parents, sister Libby, and cousin George as well as many other generations of Weimers. The Weimer family plans to fulfill his wish later this fall.
Ed Weimer's spirit and legacy lives on through his wife, Joanne Weimer; daughters, Kelly Prassenos, Kaitlyn Weimer, Abigail Weimer Rauch (Jake), and Bridget Weimer; his sister Margie (Jack Boor); his grandchildren, Khloe Prassenos, Reid Prassenos, and River Prassenos; his Aussie Doodle "PeeShaw" Girl, Nella; and his grandpups-as he liked to call them-Sawyer, Nuk, and Kenai.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 2pm at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel with a reception to follow. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Dr. Weimer, charitable donations can be made in his honor to Operation Smile, Mepkin Abbey or Heifer International.

I moved here 30 years ago. Not sure how many years after, not many, I needed a dermatologist. Someone recommended Dr. Weimer. I have been going to him ever since. My mother also went to him until her death at 103. I didn't know about his passing, otherwise I would have gone to his service. He was an awesome person, who I grew to love and admire. I will truly miss him very much.

My name is Jay Keplinger. I live right across the street from Eddie growing up. He was two years older that me and my only big brother. He loved golf and asked me to catch a golf ball with a glove when he hit it! The ball hit me on the forehead and Eddie felt so bad! He doctored me right up! lol! He helped the neighborhood kids including me with chemistry, physics and advanced math chorses. He was so gifted he very seldom had homework. After my mother died I found she had a baby book for me. On my first birthday Eddie brought me a gift! My heart goes out and my prayers to the family so blessed to have Eddie as a husband, father, brother, and friend! I will look for him in heaven when I cross! God bless you all!
