FLINTSTONE – Carla Ruth (Saville) Eckard, 55, of Flintstone, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at UPMC Western Maryland.
Born January 11, 1969, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Robert G. Saville and Janet E. (Wolfe) Saville. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her brother, Scott G. Saville.
Carla was a graduate of Flintstone High School where her father was the principal. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in math and physics from Frostburg State University, and her master's degree in engineering from West Virginia University. Her enthusiasm for education led to an illustrious career that began at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Corporation where she worked as an engineer in Tire Tech for six years. She moved on to her employment at Northrop Grumman (ATK/ABL) where she worked in structural engineering and in IT for over 20 years.
Carla had recently been attending Cornerstone Baptist Church. She had been a long time member of Winifred Road Church of Christ.
Carla's greatest joy was children, especially her own. As a dedicated mother and member of the community, Carla was well-known as a volunteer at Flintstone School and a "band parent" at Fort Hill High School. She was actively involved in 4-H as a volunteer with the equine and livestock clubs.
Carla leaves behind, in addition to her father, her loving husband, Daniel Eckard; children, Carl and Maria Eckard; and a large extended family.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 16, at 10 am with Pastor David Hattenfield officiating.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Contributions in honor of Carla's memory may be made to the Schwab Family Cancer Center, Attn: Katie Sites, 12500 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
