Carla passed away on April 19, 2025 at Covenant Hospital after a battle with kidney disease and heart failure. She was born on April 10, 1965 in Alton, Illinois, her parents were Ernest and Shirlee Smith.
She moved to
Saginaw, Michigan with her grandparents Joe and Lillie Williams, attended Buena Vista Schools until the 10th grade. She then relocated to Inglewood, CA to live with her father and stepmom, Rhona. After high school she attended Delta College where she obtained her LPN Nursing Degree in 2005. Carla worked in various nursing homes often preparing holiday meals for coworkers. At the age of five years old, she became a member of Coleman Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of the late great Pastor Hurley Coleman, Sr. She presently was a member of World Outreach Campus under the leadership of Bishop Hurley Coleman, Jr. and Lady Sandra Coleman whom she loved dearly. She had the opportunity to serve as president of the Nurse's Guild and accepted Jesus as her personal Savior. Her hobbies included cooking, attending concerts and comedy shows.
Carla leaves to cherish her memory her children, Porscha (Brian) Smith-Godwin of Lithia Springs, GA, Keonte Smith of Michigan and Paris Smith of Lithia springs, GA; siblings, DeWayne (Toya) Smith of Charlotte, NC, Stacy Smith of Oklahoma, Michelle (Arick) Belvin-Williams of Louisville, KY, Shaulana (Terry) Wheatley of Springfield, IL, Mandrill Smith of California, Priscilla Johnson of Fort Worth, TX, Curtis Johnson of Houston, TX, Latoya and James Poudzunas of Springfield, IL; two grandchildren, Keonte Smith, Jr. and Jackson Godwin; three god-children, Precious, Daryl Glen and Crystal; she leaves her bestie of 50 years, Cassandra (Daryl) Moore of Lawston, OK; a host of aunts, uncles, special aunt, Dortha Certain who was always there; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and coworkers.
Carla Yvette Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Shirlee Smith; grandparents, Joe and Lillie Williams; aunt and uncle, Wille Bell and Willie D. Rhodes; cousins, Michael Patterson and Patrick Jennings.
Special thanks to the Johnson and Coleman families for your love and support over the years and to the World Outreach Campus Church family. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2025 at World Outreach Campus, 2405 Bay Rd.,
Saginaw, MI 48602. Bishop Hurley J. Coleman, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
