Mrs. Alpha Carlene Bowman Cain, 82 of Ararat, VA, passed away peacefully Friday night, December 12, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 6, 1943, in Patrick County, to the late Kermit and Clara Alice Marshall Bowman. She was a member of Willis Gap Baptist Church for many years. Left to cherish her memory are a son and two daughters-in-law, Danny and Lisa Cain, and Elizabeth Cain; grandchildren, Jerry Wayne Cain, Jr. and Amanda, Roscoe and Kimberly Cain, Nicholas and Kristen Cain, Alexus Cain, Jamie Hopkins, and Shona Goins; special great granddaughter, Montana Cain; great grandchildren, Logan, Kaylee, Trent, Alyssa, Maddox, Camron, Payton, Blain, and Olivia; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Velda and Bill Marshall, and Lucille Hooker, two brothers and sister-in-law, Timothy “Tim” and Barbara Bowman, and Ricky Bowman; special friends, Alice Dellenback, Louise Hawks, and Jerry Edwards; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cain was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Henderson Cain, Jr.; son, Jerry Wayne “Jay” Cain; daughter, Wanda Maxine “Bue” Cain Hopkins; six brothers, Gray Dean Bowman and June, Rukus Matsue “RM” Bowman and Alice, Paul Edward Bowman and Lurene, Ted Ray Bowman, Howard McKinley “Ken” Bowman and Erlene, and Harold Loman Bowman; a sister-in-law, Lynn Bowman; and her special fur baby, Buddy. Funeral services will be held at Moody Funeral Home on Wednesday December 17, 2025, at 11:00am with Pastor Arlis Thomas officiating. The committal and burial will follow the service in the Willis Gap Baptist Church Cemetery in Ararat, VA. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening December 16, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:00pm The family would like to give a special thank you to Tammy, Ruby, Jonathan, Autumn, Savannah, and to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all of the love and care given to Granny and the family during her illness. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Cain to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, PO Box 327, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
