Mrs. Geraldine Thompson Smith, age 84, of Ararat, Virginia, passed away Monday, September 22, 2025, at Northern Regional Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born in Patrick County, on April 5, 1941, to the late Alexander “Alec” Thompson and Etta Mae Peale Thompson. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sibling, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Smith was a very faithful member of Willis Gap Baptist Church; she loved serving the Lord and helping others in need. Left to cherish Mrs. Smith’s memory is her loving husband, Roy Franklin Smith; daughters and son-in-law, Denise Attardo, Melanie Gwyn and Jonathan; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky Smith and Judy; grandchildren and their spouses, Sammy Attardo, Amber Tolbert and Chris, Dustin Smith and Victory, Jill Slate and Jesse, Sonny Smith, Kayleigh Smith and Colton Smith, Brandon Gwyn and Abigail Grimes, Mason Gwyn and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Easton, Emma, and Everett Tolbert, Ellick Attardo, Victoria and Eleanor Smith, Charlene Slate, Braxton, Masey Mae and Ellis Gwyn; sisters and brother-in-law, Lois Nester, Dianne Collins and Randy; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wesley Thompson and Barbara, Roger Thompson and Alice, Lonnie Thompson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by, son-in-law, Sam Attardo; brother-in-law, James Nester; grandson, Jacob Smith. A celebration of Mrs. Smith life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Willis Gap Baptist Church with the Pastor Josh Jenkins and Pastor Ricky Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Willis Gap Baptist Church from 10:00 until time of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Smith family.
