Mr. Wesley Alexander Thompson, age 79, of Ararat, Virginia, passed away Thursday morning, January 29, 2026, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home with his loving family by his side. Mr. Thompson was born in Patrick County on November 27, 1946, to the late Alex Thompson and Etta Peele Thompson. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and sibling, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mr. Thompson was a longtime farmer, run a successful logging company, even run a little country store. He was a faithful member of Blue Hollow Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara Davis Thompson; daughters and sons-in-law, Tabatha Hughes and Joe, Angela Pell and Barry; sons and daughters-in-law, John Thompson and Denise, Donnie Thompson and Sondra; grandchildren, Dustin, Dallas, Jessica, Katrina, Gary, Erica, Matthew, Allie, and Abigail; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane Collins and Randy, Lois Nester, Roy Smith; brothers and sister-in-law, Roger Thompson and Alice, Lonnie Thompson; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine Smith, James Nester. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy with the Rev. Rickey Martin officiating. Burial will follow weather permitting at Thompson Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 9:30 AM until time of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moody's of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Thompson family.
