Charlie was a light in the lives of all of my sons as they grew up playing baseball under his nurturing and caring eye. It was always life guidance.. not just baseball. His passion and compassion was evident in everything he did. And his constant refrain of "Learn from it... " has stuck with everyone he met. And I live by it to this day. We love you Charlie and will miss you.

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Charlie when he was a yard man at Evanston Lumber. He was promoted to Yard Foreman after Kevin Lord retired and true to form, Charlie was extremely dedicated to his role and treated the job as though he owned the yard. He and I had dinner many times over the years and he recounted his days as a baseball player--one of the best pitchers as a 12 year old--and the respect shown his Mother when he got a bit too big for his britches. Charlie you were a great man, a loyal friend, and you possessed far too many attributes to list. Contrary to your description of a worker we both knew when you said "he will have lived a life largely unfulfilled" you my friend were the epitome of the best of the best. May you rest in peace, wear your Santa hat in heaven and always remember as you pass out those caramel apples that we loved you as a human and will always hold you close to our hearts. Good bye for now Charlie, may God bless.

Charlie was my hitting coach in high school. I was still adjusting to the high school game and serving a suspension to start my junior year season. I was lacking confidence as a player, but Charlie helped change that and turned me into a completely different hitter and thinker. He unlocked a lot of power for me and encouraged me with every swing at each lesson. We built a bond those two years before I left for college, just buddies. He had a great smile, sense of humor and energy to him. I always looked forward to hitting the cages, especially at Mt. Trashmore where I grew up. He made my high school experience better and my afterschool days memorable. Thanks for everything, Charlie.

Coach Prieto was my favorite coach I have ever had. Our paths crossed during Evanston Baseball as he was my head coach for a few years. His mentorship was instrumental to me as a player and young person. I have the fondest memories of him and am deeply saddened to hear about his passing. He was a selfless and incredibly kind person who will be missed. Sending lots of love to the entire Prieto family.

Coach Prieto saw something in me at age 10 that I didn´t see in myself. A scrawny kid just hoping to scrape his way onto the B team, he selected me for the A team and instantly showed me I could compete at a level higher than I thought. Out of all the coaches I had in my life, I think Coach Prieto best understood that youth sports are a laboratory for life. He showed us that you should take pride in how you conduct yourself and that you should control what you can control. It´s okay to fail, but to fail due to lack of effort is inexcusable. After that season, I continued to take hitting lessons with Coach Prieto for years after. In the depths of winter, my brothers and I would go to his friend Rick Peterson´s basement to hit with him. I always remember, after a particularly unenthusiastic swing, Coach Prieto would hesitate before reloading another ball onto the tee. "Was that your best swing?" he would ask.
May Coach Prieto´s memory be a blessing to all who had the pleasure to know him and a reminder to never take for granted the people who believe you can do better and be better than you think. They are rare!

Charley and I were teammates in little league and shared a championship together. He was a great ball player and a super nice guy and friend. I´m shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. My prayers are with the family. God bless.

Coach, proud to be named your captain my sophomore year at ETHS. You believed in me so much.. that you made me believe in myself. Thank You. I´d look into the dugout to see if you had someone warming up to get me out of trouble on the mound. There never was.. you would force me to find another gear inside myself to finish stronger. Thanks, again Coach Prieto. May you rest in eternal peace!

Coach Prieto coached 3 of our 4 boys - Patrick, Danny, and Joe Caproni - first with the Saints and then Evanston Catholic. We all absolutely adored him. He was kind, warm, funny, patient, and extremely encouraging....not always common characteristics of a football coach!
We were all absolutely heartbroken to hear of his death. His family & friends, all who loved him, are in our thoughts and prayers.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

Very sad to hear! I remember Carlos as cheerful and a good friend who got me involved in some fun activities. We were friends at St Nick's, through him I signed up for a Chicago American newspaper route in 4th grade, and we both spent some of the proceeds on slot cars and on track time at Tom Thumb.
Many years later, I was happy to encounter his brother, Dr. Jorge, when he treated my Dad at St. Francis.
My sincere condolences to the family.

It was sad news this week when I got the word about the death of my friend. He was my shortstop on my softball teams in the late 70´s, early 80´s. I have never played with a better SS.
Charlie was a wonderful guy and had that spirit and it factor the minute you met him. I had not seen him in years, but had friends who had and I figured in time I would see him. I pictured the hug we would give each other. I´m sad that won´t happen now. RIP Charlie( Chico)

Coach Prieto was an incredible person. I am forever grateful to him for always believing in me and encouraging me to do whatever I desired in life. A lot of the lessons and moments with him still carry on with me to this day. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.

Was on the receiving end of that gun from shortstop. Remember Charlie whipping up quesadillas at the parties after the game. We were all so tight back then. Miss those days and especially miss Charlie Range. Love you buddy, Stretch

Charlie was always fun to be around. He was always smiling and joking with everyone. It was amazing when you were on his team and miserable when we had to play against him. RIP my friend.
