Carlotta Sue "Sue" Cooper was born May 25, 1956, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Carl Leslie and Mona Lea (Blasingame) Gwartney. A lifetime resident of Locust Grove, she departed this life on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the age of 69 years, 2 months, and 19 days.

Carlotta grew up in Locust Grove and graduated with the Locust Grove High School Class of 1974. She first met Gary Gene Cooper at a birthday party when they were just 8 years old. Gary always said he thought she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen, and it was truly love at first sight. The two were united in marriage on March 17, 1973, in Pryor, Oklahoma, and together they built a beautiful life and raised two children, Melissa and Christopher.

Over the years, Carlotta was active in her community. She served as director of election polling in Locust Grove for many years, worked as a librarian at the Locust Grove Public Library, and devoted herself to being a full-time homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She also served with the Locust Grove Public School Band Boosters and volunteered with the Girl Scouts for numerous years.

In her spare time, Carlotta enjoyed shopping on Amazon, surfing the internet, tending to her plants, and reading. She dearly loved her family and was happiest when surrounded by them. Determined, a little ornery, and never afraid to stand up for what she believed in, Carlotta also had a tender side that came through in the way she cared for her dogs and poured her love into her family-always, no matter the circumstance.

Carlotta is survived by: her husband of over 52 years, Gary, of the home; 1 daughter: Melissa Stanglin and husband Brian of Peggs, Oklahoma; 1 son: Christopher Cooper; 4 grandchildren: Sadie Stanglin, Jesse Stanglin, Iva K Cooper, and Carl Cooper; 1 sister: Liesa Armstrong of Eucha, Oklahoma; 2 sisters-in-law: Marilyn Cooper of Locust Grove, Oklahoma and Jeanette Cole and Wayne of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Carlotta was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel with sharing of memories led by Brother Shawn Bates. Cremation services have been entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home.
