Carmela Cappellino

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our much loved Carmela Cappellino, who peacefully left us on Sunday March 23, 2025 at the age of 88. A cherished parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, and friend, Carmela left a lasting impact on all who were fortunate to know her. She is survived by her loving daughter Viviana (Peter) Grossmann; grandsons Alessandro (Katherine) and Nico (Makelina); great-grandchildren Luca and Colette; sister Anna; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years Pasquale, her parents, Fortunato and Adelide, and her five older siblings.
Born on July 26, 1936 in Messina, Italy, Carmela was the youngest of seven. She grew up in Trieste, Italy with her mother. In her twenties she met a tailor by the name of Pasquale Cappellino who she later married. She moved to the United States in 1967 with her husband and young daughter. She initially worked at Bonds Clothing Factory doing piecework. In 1972 she started work at Delco, where she would work for the next 23 years. With perfect attendance and an eagerness to fulfill the American dream, she was often teased for working all the overtime she was allowed. After a successful career at Delco, she retired to care for her beloved grandsons. She dedicated her next chapter to Alex and Nico and being involved in every aspect of their lives.
Carmela loved swimming, shopping with her daughter and son-in-law, gardening, and cooking for her family. Her home was her pride and joy and she spent many hours decorating and meticulously landscaping. She was famous for her lasagna, arancini, Russian salad, and her art collection. Whether she was gardening or cooking, she approached every task with an unmatched attention to detail and presentation.
Carmela's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday (April 5th) 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Greece. A luncheon to follow at Grandpa Sam's in Spencerport at 12:30pm.
