Obituary of Carmine A. Cavezza
Carmine Anthony Cavezza, age 83, a longtime resident of East Hanover, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 with his family by his side.
Carmine is survived by his two devoted sons, Michael A. Cavezza and James C. Cavezza and his wife Meredith; three grandsons who he adored, Dante, Nicholas and Matteo; two brothers, Mario Cavezza and his wife Patricia & Francesco Cavezza and his wife Lucia; three sisters, Carol Spagnuolo and her husband Pasquale, Lucy Cavezza McGrath & Mary Belknap and her husband William; and several extended family members and dear friends.
Carmine was predeceased by his beloved wife, Diana Cavezza (née Rizzo) in 2018; his son, Thomas D. Cavezza on January 25, 2024; and an infant daughter, Christina Cavezza, many years ago.
Carmine was born in the town of Cicciano in Naples, Italy on May 29, 1940 to the late Tomasso and Rosina Cavezza. He emigrated to the United States with his family when he was 12 years old, settling in Madison, NJ. Carmine's parents instilled the importance of family, faith and hard work in all of their children.
Carmine graduated from Madison High School and shortly after enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country, which he was extremely proud of. He served in Germany and Libya before being honorably discharged.
After his time in the Army, Carmine married his beloved wife, Diana Cavezza. They lived in Madison shortly before settling in East Hanover in 1969, where they raised their three sons.
Carmine had a career spanning close to 50 years with New Jersey Transit out of their Maplewood hub. He drove a New Jersey Transit bus for many years and on several different routes. Carmine was dedicated to his work and his professionalism made him a role model for new hires joining New Jersey Transit. He was proud of his near half a century of service to the people of New Jersey and the many friendships he forged with his colleagues.
Carmine's most proud role was that of father and grandfather. He loved to spend time with his three sons and his three grandsons, who he was deeply proud of. Carmine taught them everything he knew and his life revolved around his family. He enjoyed cooking for everyone during the holidays and spending time with his family during the summers at the shore. He was also well-known for being an incredible gardener. Carmine expertly grew tomatoes and various other vegetables in his garden.
Carmine made the world a better place and touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and leaves behind a beautiful legacy that will live on for generations within his family.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2024 held at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
