In Loving Memory of Carmine Novello; August 25th, 1948 – January 13th, 2025
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carmine Novello, 76. He was a beloved husband of Lidia, devoted papa' of Adele, cherished nonno of Martina, dear brother of Vincenzo (Rosetta), adored brother-in-law of Mario and Josephine Spizzirri, Tony Spizzirri, Giovanna Spizzirri and Francesca Spizzirri, and fond uncle, cousin and friend of many.
Carmine was born on August 25th, 1948, in the small Italian town of Montalto Uffugo. There, he grew up farming land and taking naps under the countless olive trees. Then, in 1975, at the age of 27, him, Lidia and his daughter immigrated from their small town in Italy to Chicago. During the 50 years lived here, he accomplished many goals and worked many trades, but nonetheless, never refraining from his roots, traditions, and his love for homemade salami. On a yearly basis, he would gather with those he loved most, and carried out the traditions he learned as a young boy. In his beloved Norridge he carried on the traditions of making sausage, Capicollo, Sopressata, wine and, during the hot summer month of August, tomato sauce! His traditions were "the best in the world'. Aside from making delicious Italian food, he tended to his beloved Fig tree, took long naps on what he'd call the "Porch-mobile", watched old black-and-white Western movies, and ate a little snack of cheese any chance he got.
He was a man of great kindness and wisdom- always ready with a story or a joke to tell. If you ever sat at the table with him, he would start off the conversation by asking many questions, then, once he asked if "you were Italian?", he would make sure to keep an eye on you and exactly on how much food you were eating- even if you'd gain 20 pounds in front of him, you could never eat enough in his eyes!
A celebration of Carmine's life will be held on January 17th, 2025, at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels, with visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m until 8:00 pm. In addition, the Funeral will be held on January 18th, 2025 at St. Walters Church, Roselle. Mass Celebrated at 11:00 a.m.
His legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered. Rest in peace, Nonno. We love you just as much as you loved fried calamari, cheese and Salsiccia.
