Carol Ann Byrne Andres, born on March 19, 1940, in Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, in Asheville, North Carolina. Her journey took her from her roots in Pittsburgh to a life enriched by the sun and warmth of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and ultimately to the scenic landscapes of Buncombe County, where she made her home.

Throughout her life, Carol was driven by a relentless pursuit of her passions and an admirable dedication to her community. After moving to Asheville with her husband, James Franklin “Jim” Andres, Carol, with her entrepreneurial spirit, purchased a small restaurant that showcased her love for hospitality. However, it was in her late 40s that she decided to embark on a new path, pursuing a law degree that would transform her life. Carol practiced law for 35 years at her own firm, Carol B. Andres Law Offices, where she served her clients with diligence and compassion, earning respect within the community.

Carol was a cherished member of St. Eugene Catholic Church and was known for her vibrant personality and unwavering support for her family and friends. Her zest for life and dedication to her work left a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Cathy Fitzgerald, and her son, Bob Fitzgerald, along with his wife, Elizabeth and their children Riley and Brooke. Carol's family also includes her daughter-in-law, Kathy Smith; granddaughters: Carol Gardner and her husband Kashif, and Sarah Hensley and her husband Justin. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her step-children: Sue Bednarz and husband Paul, Mike Andres, John Andres, and Robert Andres; her four great-grandchildren, her two great nieces, and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and extended family.

Carol is preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Jim Andres, who passed away on July 4, 2023. She also mourned the loss of her parents, Clair Richard Byrne and Betty Moore Byrne; as well as her children: Wesley Smith, Richard Smith, and Molly Smith; and her step-son, Richard Andres.

A graveside service to honor Carol's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Lewis Memorial Park, located at 415 Beaverdam Road, Asheville, NC, 28804. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating her legacy and the indelible mark she left on those she loved.
