Carol DICKISON Obituary

DICKISON, Carol Age 84, of Lexington, MA, passed away on June 26, 2025, from a broken heart, just three days after learning that her loving husband of 55 years, Jack, had passed. Both Carol and Jack will be celebrated at a Memorial Service at the Church of Our Redeemer, in Lexington, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, on what would have been their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary. Carol is survived by her son, Mark Dickison (Laura Colella) of Winchester, MA; her daughter, Tara Kilar (Tim Kilar) of Goffstown, NH; and six very accomplished grandchildren, Olivia Bones, Bryn Lightfoot (fiancé, Exie), Alex Dickison, Rebecca Sileo, Kelly Sileo, and Elena Dickison. The daughter of John and Mary Maloney, Carol was born and raised in Providence, where she enjoyed spending time with her cousins and the extended Maloney family. The family later moved to Florida, where Carol attended high school in Ft. Myers and college at Barry University in Miami, where she met several lifelong friends. After graduating in 1963, Carol spent a summer at Oxford University and then attended Boston College, where she earned her master's degree in education. It was in Boston where she met the love of her life, Jack, at a "mixer" held at the Sheraton Commander in Harvard Square. Jack and Carol were married in the summer of '69 and raised their children in Lexington, MA. Carol had a distinguished career in education. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Watertown, took a brief hiatus when Mark and Tara were born, then continued as an elementary school teacher in Lincoln. In the early 1980s, Carol moved to the Lexington Public School system to be closer to her family and held various positions over two years, ultimately working as an administrator supporting the guidance department. Carol developed deep friendships that she cherished and maintained, including friends from college, graduate school, Arlington, and Lexington. She was an extremely caring and loyal daughter who weekly drove to Providence, RI and then Lawrence, MA, for over 30 years, to support and care for her mother who suffered from debilitating arthritis. Carol loved spending time with her grandchildren and was always happy to babysit and enjoyed many concerts, recitals, gymnastic competitions, and family dinners. Carol was an avid reader and a frequent visitor of the Cary Memorial Library; she loved cook books and trying new recipes, but she did not like goat cheese. She loved a bargain and made weekly trips to Costco, TJ Maxx, and Marshall's, and especially enjoyed choosing cute outfits for her grandchildren. Carol and Jack had a great marriage with many adventures and were regular visitors to the Bar Harbor Inn, Boothbay Harbor Oceanside Inn, and St. Andrews By the Sea. Though she suffered from Alzheimer's in her last years, Carol continued to recognize and love her husband and her favorite place to be was right by his side. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at Brightview Concord River in Billerica and Beacon Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Carol in her final months.

Calling Hours will be held Friday, June 27, at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., LEXINGTON, from 4pm to 7pm. Memorial Service on Saturday, June 28, at the Church of Our Redeemer, 6 Meriam St., Lexington, at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.

June 28, 2025

I'm profoundly saddened by Carol's passing That my utterly peripheral place in the course of her life still leaves me so moved serves as an affirmation of and testament to how expansive her generosity of spirit was and is. An English teacher at Lexington High School, when I first assumed the responsibility for teaching Art of the Film, I knew nothing of the complicated process of scheduling and ordering movies using a variety of catalogues, libraries, and distribution companies whose offerings I was dependent on. Until videos replaced using actual films, for several years it was Carol's expertise, equanimity, patience, and warmth that not only helped me navigate the processes but do so in a way that prodigiously benefited my students as well as myself. In the face of all the snafus that could arise relative to providing films around which the course was comprised, I can't count the number of times Carol's were the wings that kept me aloft. Infinitely grateful, I commend Carol's spirit to all that is grace-filled and extend my warmest condolences to her family and those who dwelt within the circle of light she created.
