Carol Frost Obituary Carol Anne (Norcross) Frost, age 97, of
Wilmington, Massachusetts and Fryeburg, Maine, passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on October 22, 2025.
The youngest of three daughters of Evelyn (McGlone) and George Henry Norcross, she was born October 13, 1928, in Nantucket, MA. While attending Nantucket High School she worked as a telephone operator and alongside her sister, Phyllis, at the Downyflake Restaurant.
After graduating high school at the top of her class, she attended Boston University where she earned her bachelor's degree in journalism in 1950. Her sister, Evelyn, encouraged Carol and her college roommate to move to New York City where she landed her dream job as a researcher for Time Life Magazine in Rockefeller Center.
On October 17, 1951, she married the late William (Bill) P. Frost, Jr. who she met in Nantucket when he was working a summer job as a lifeguard. They were wed at the church in Ridge, MD where Bill's uncle was a priest. They lived in Ridgewood, NJ until 1955, then moved with their two young daughters to
Wilmington, MA, where they continued growing their family.
While raising her six daughters, Carol, with her love the written word, stayed true to her journalism background and kept a personal journal for decades and often contributed to The Wilmington Town Crier. A lifelong Girl Scout, she worked at Camp Merrymeeting, now called Camp Maude Eaton, in Andover where she encouraged her camp counselors and campers. An excellent swimmer, she taught all her own kids and many of the grandkids to swim, as well as countless Girl Scouts. She was a member the Piscataqua Pioneers, a genealogy society for whom she helped write one of their most recent publications about the history of pre-revolutionary war settlers.
She was her husband's biggest cheerleader with his woodturning avocation and befriended many craftsmen around New England alongside Bill. She had a keen interest in politics, was a member of the League of Women Voters and involved with the Student Government program at Wilmington High School. She loved games and was always eager to beat her competition. Her game playing skills were legendary and she happily won hundreds of games of cards, dominoes, and board games played with her friends, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A huge football fan, she helped her college team by tutoring some of the football players who were at risk of being benched because of their grades, and she was an avid fan of the New England Patriots. She was a champion skillet thrower at the Fryeburg Fair where she and her friends met every year to bet at the horse races.
She enjoyed camping, canoeing, skiing, hiking, swimming, spending time with her family, and she loved playing bridge. She was an avid reader and had long conversations about books and authors with her daughters. Carol read several newspapers each day. She followed the stock market with Bill, often competing with him to see who could pick the best stocks. She was young at heart and loved playing with her grandkids and their kids, too, often seen playing with the youngest attendees at family gatherings making forts under tables and banging pans for music.
Carol was intelligent, resourceful and a wonderful teacher. When her children were in school, most Saturday mornings were spent at the Wilmington Public Library, with all her daughters in tow. Whenever anyone had a question she couldn't answer right away, she'd find the answer eventually. She made learning fun and played letter, word and number games with the girls on the long trips to visit family in Connecticut, New York, Virginia, Florida, Nantucket, and their regular trips to Fryeburg. She and Bill traveled extensively with family and friends. She lived a good and full life and left the world a better place for having been here. She will be dearly missed but her sage advice and words of wisdom will long be remembered by her loved ones.
Carol is survived by her brother-in-law and his wife, Charles and Kay Frost of New York City and North Haven, NY; daughters Carol Frost of Winchester, MA, Sally Whitten of Fryeburg, Maine, Sue Frost of Fryeburg, Maine, Jula Frost of Austin, TX, Laura Tuite and husband Peter of Susquehanna, PA, and Nancy Canty and husband Jim of Woburn, MA; seventeen grandchildren; Craig, Julie, Nick and Melanie, Erica and Dan, Mike and Marissa, Stephanie and Jon, Jeanne and Ricky, Kallie and Mitchell, Maeve, Peter, and McKenna; 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Carol was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Gary Whitten of Fryeburg, Maine, and Stephen Jette of Eliot, Maine.
A private family service will be held with arrangements made by Nichols Funeral Home,
