Carol I. Gardecki, 88, of West Lawn, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in the care of Reading Hospital. Born in State Hill, she was the only child of the late Harold L. and Edna M. (Noecker) DeLong.
A graduate of Wilson High School and Kutztown State Teacher's College, Carol taught math at Wilson for several years. She later worked as an extruder operator at Polymer Corp, and was a part-time dispatcher for the Borough of Wyomissing Police Department and Zone 4 fire dispatch for over 30 years.
Carol was very generous with her time and was deeply devoted to her community. She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church. She tutored countless students in math and taught classes on the U.S. Constitution every month. She was a former President and Vice President of the West Lawn Borough Council and a Board member of the West Lawn and Wyomissing Hills Libraries. She was Treasurer of the Berks County Oathkeepers, a Board member of the Berks County Patriots, and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the West Lawn Fire Company. She was also Treasurer of the Pennsylvania German Dialect and Culture Society and a Board member of the Western Berks County Versammling. She enjoyed gardening and was Secretary at Old Dry Road Farm where she also oversaw the garden. She was an avid deer hunter, and a lifetime member of the NRA. In her spare time Carol was also an enthusiastic country line dancer and enjoyed her monthly Farkle games and her monthly outings with the card club ladies for over 50 years.
Left to treasure her memory are her children: Diane P. Kemmerer, wife of Donald E. of Laureldale; Michael A. Gardecki, husband of Donna, of Sinking Spring; Daniel W. Gardecki, husband of Debra, of New Freedom; and Timothy J. Gardecki, husband of Sherry, of Reinholds; grandchildren: Ryan and Jordan Gardecki; Samantha, Sabrina, and Stephanie Gardecki; and Renée Hunsberger; and great granddaughter, Olivia Gardecki. In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her granddaughter, Wendy Hunsberger and her former husband, Walter A. Gardecki.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carol's memory may be offered to the Old Dry Road Farm, PO Box 163, 202 Highland Rd, Wernersville PA 19565.
A Prayer Service for Carol will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611, with committal to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Diane, Michael, Dan & Tim,
I was so sorry to hear of your mom´s passing. I have many happy childhood memories of our families spending time together and often think of your mom and dad and all of you. You all were wonderful neighbors. In reading Carol´s obituary, I liked the fact that you said she was a math tutor as I was one of the many students who benefited from it. I also appreciate the friendship that Carol had with my mother and the kindness she showed to my mom, especially during the difficult time after my dad had passed. I am sure it could be challenging at times. God bless you and I hope you all are well and having a good life.
