Funeral services for Carol Ann Gartside, 83, of Newark, will be held at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 11 A.M., Saturday, May 10, 2025, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 9-11 Saturday, prior to the service.
Carol, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at Mt. Carmel East Hospital on Thursday, May 1, 2025. She was born in Newark, Ohio on October 26, 1941, to the late Ralph "Bud" and Verna L. (Burton) Root.
A graduate of Alexandria High School, Carol worked for Roper, Newark Air Force Base for many years, retiring from Boeing.
Carol was a generous and graceful woman who always greeted you with a kind smile. She loved to travel, shop, and kept a busy social calendar meeting friends for cards, shuffleboard, or on the golf course where she shared many laughs. She was a member of the Newark Moose Lodge 499 and longtime member of Licking Springs Trout Club and current Licking Springs Country Club, formerly Moundbuilders.
She embraced her role as wife, mother, and Mimi and was an unwavering support to her family in their daily activities and loved to spoil them with great home-cooked meals.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Gerald "Jerry" Gartside; her children, Scott (Jean) Gartside, Stacey (John) Smith, and Shelly (Marco) Gartside-DePizzol; grandchildren, Joshua Gartside, Heidi Hewitt, Shane (Micah) Smith, Michael Smith, Stephani (Jameson) Read; Matteo DePizzol, Xavier Gartside, Maximillian Gartside, and Zada Hatfield; great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Wyatt, Jase, Sloan, and Rowan; and daughter-in-law, Bernadette Hendricks.
She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen "Steve" Gartside; grandson, Sebastian Gartside; and brother, James "Jim" Root.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carol's name can be made to the Licking County Board of Development Disabilities Endowment Fund, 116 N. 22nd Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
