Funeral services with military honors for Stephen Joseph Gartside, 59, of Newark, will be held at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 12 Noon, Saturday, March 1, 2025, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 10-12 Noon Saturday, prior to the service.
Steve, a United States Navy Veteran, passed peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2025. He was born in Newark, Ohio on February 24, 1965, to Jerry and Carol (Root) Gartside of Newark.
Steve attended Newark Catholic High School and was a 1983 graduate of Newark High School. He served six years with the United States Navy and was currently working as a financial analyst for contract pay systems with DFAS.
Steve had a boisterous voice which was recognizable in any crowd. He coached baseball at North Newark Little League and was the Newark Catholic Boys JV Golf Coach for many years.
In addition to his parents, Steve is survived by his children, Xavier, Maximillian, and Zada; siblings, Scott (Jean) Gartside, Stacey (John) Smith, and Shelly (Marco) Gartside-DePizzol; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Sebastian.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Steve's name can be made to the Newark Catholic High School Athletic Association, 1 Green Wave Drive, Newark, Ohio 43055.
