Carol (Depweg) Johnson, 88, passed away on June 29th in Indianapolis, IN. Carol was born in Hamilton, OH on September 16th, 1936 to parents Julia and Leonard Depweg, the sixth of eight children. Carol attended Marian College, where she met the love of her life, Leland “Corky” Johnson. They were married in her hometown on September 5th, 1959, and spent the next years raising five children together. Carol had a passion for gardening, playing cards, and spending time on her porch, always welcoming friends, neighbors, and family to stop by. In recent years, she especially enjoyed traveling, watching her grandchildren grow, and trying new experiences. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Corky, and her oldest son, Steve, as well as her parents and multiple siblings. She is survived by her children Leland “Skip” Johnson, Julie (Matt) Bolten, Susan (Hal) Barney, Joseph Johnson, and Kellee Johnson; sisters JoAnn Depweg and Ruth Morris; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Carol leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held from 4 – 8 pm on Wednesday July 2nd at Flanner Buchanan Broad Ripple. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Thursday July 3rd at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Carol’s honor to Second Helpings.
