Carol A. Kowalka, 83, of Berea, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025.
Born on September 30, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, Carol was the cherished daughter of the late Charles and Anne Krakora. She was the devoted wife of Ray Kowalka, with whom she shared 61 years, 4 months, and 10 days of love, laughter, and partnership.
Carol was a loving mother to Rachel (Bob) Montgomery and Raymond (Beth) Kowalka, and a caring sister-in-law to Chuck (Rusty) Lawther, Bob Lawther, and Jim Kowalka. She was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law Russel Lawther and Roy Lawther.
Carol began her career as a biology teacher, sharing her curiosity and love of learning with young minds. She later chose to stay home and raise her children, a role she embraced with grace and dedication. When her children were older, she returned to the workforce and spent 20 fulfilling years at Scholastic Books.
A gifted artist, Carol found joy in painting-starting with acrylics and eventually falling in love with watercolors. Her creativity bloomed in the form of delicate, expressive pieces, often painting two watercolors a day and giving them as heartfelt gifts to friends and family.
Carol was a woman of faith and was deeply devoted to her church and church family. Her spiritual life was a source of strength and joy, and she found comfort and connection in her faith community.
Carol's warmth, generosity, and quiet strength touched many lives. She will be remembered not only for her talents and devotion, but for the kindness she shared so freely.
Carol lived with Type 1 diabetes for 81 years, facing its challenges with strength and grace. She was an active member of the Type 1 Diabetes 50 Years+ group and proudly became the first entry in its Platinum Masters Group. In honor of Carol's lifelong journey with diabetes, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers. https://diabetes.org/?utm_source=microsoft_search&utm_medium=ppc&utm_campaign=fundraising_wefight&utm_content=search&utm_term=brand&dclid=COi3xqHT75ADFUHf9QIdYn0IHQ&gad_source=7&gad_campaignid=22177134666
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. A funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 PM in the chapel.
