Carol Ann (Mostek) Kuehl, 87, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, with her family by her side.
She was born on September 12, 1937, in Green Bay to Della (Destree) and Frank Mostek. She was the first of their five children. Family was everything to Carol and she treasured her siblings. Growing up she enjoyed many summers with her cousins at the Destree farm and cottage. She was very proud of her Belgian and Polish heritage.
Carol graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1955. She briefly pursued a life at Holy Family Convent in Manitowoc. She attended Door-Kewaunee County Teachers College at the beginning of her career and earned her Bachelors degree from UW-Oshkosh later in life. She taught school in Green Bay, De Pere, Sun Prairie and Madison for over 40 years. She retired from Our Lady of Lourdes in DePere and liked to keep in touch with her past students and fellow teachers.
She married Arnold Kuehl in October of 1966 and was a mother to five children.
Carol loved to travel with Arnie, especially to New England or anywhere with a lighthouse. They also enjoyed several trips to Georgia and Florida. Throughout her life she visited over 40 states.
She and Arnie filled their family’s weekends with swimming at Horseshoe Bay and camping at Boulder Lake, Lost Lake, and Chipmunk Rapids. She liked to fish, canoe, and enjoy nature.
Carol enjoyed crafting of all kinds - knitting, crocheting, tatting, sewing, making cards, and anything that grabbed her imagination. After retiring she spent many years making and selling her crafts at local shows. Hundreds of her signature 2-sided aprons and hand-embroidered dish towels are in kitchens everywhere.
She liked to play games and knew all the answers to Trivial Pursuit, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. She also enjoyed doing word search puzzles. She was an avid reader. She had a book in every room and could read multiple books at the same time.
Carol was very patriotic. She was immensely proud of all her family members who were in the service, especially her father Frank who was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army.
She was a member of the Lucky Pennies Homemakers Club, a lector and religious education teacher at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, a Boy Scout den mother, a Girl Scout troop leader, a Red Hatter, and a volunteer with numerous organizations over the years.
She loved all animals and had a special place in her heart for Porkchop the chihuahua whom she adored and Iggy the French bulldog who gave her comfort and companionship.
Carol taught her children to treat others the way you want to be treated, to help others in need, to not be afraid to pursue your passions, to laugh and have fun, and to always be yourself no matter what anyone else thinks.
She was the coolest mom to not only her children but anyone who needed a shoulder to lean on or someone to confide in. She had an open mind and was very accepting. She treated everyone as if they were family and made sure everyone felt special and included. And there was always room at her table for anyone who needed a warm meal or place to go on Thanksgiving. If you were hungry, she would immediately recite a list of what she had in the fridge to eat or could make for you. We’re going to miss her cherry streusel bars, pickles & bologna spread, jello salads, and chili.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Arnold; daughter, Caryn (David Bell); sons, Chris (Cindy), Paul (Yoon), Andrew and Peter (Heather); grandchildren, Margo (Elliot) Lamb, Drew (Monica) Kuehl, Bailey (Ethan) Young, Savannah Krigbaum, Richard George and Kaleb Bell; great-grandchildren, Carter and Walter; sister, Judy (Gene) Thoe; brothers, John (Faye) Mostek and Jim (Debbie) Mostek; and sister-in-law, Judy Draeger.
She is preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, John and Edna Kuehl; sister, Lynn Klawitter; sisters-in-law, Carol Pfile and Carol Kuehl; brothers-in-law: Dick Laundrie, Mel Moreau, Bob Klawitter, Jim Pfile, Herman Draeger and Bob Kuehl; nephews, George Mostek and Richie Thoe; family pets, Queenie and Sarge; and her fur baby Porkchop.
Thank you to all the devoted and compassionate individuals at Bellin and Unity Hospice. We also appreciate the kind staff at Woodside who cared for her during her past short-term visits. Carol considered all of you her friends and confidants.
We also want to express our appreciation and gratitude to her younger sister Judy for all the special care and attention and encouragement she showed Carol especially in her later years.
A gathering will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025 from 1:30 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, Receptions (340 S. Monroe Ave, Green Bay, WI) with a prayer service to begin at 3:00 P.M.
