Carol Joan Wier McBurney, 93 of Donalsonville, Georgia formerly Humboldt, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Inurnment will take place at Union Cemetery in Humboldt. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Humboldt. Online condolences may be left at www.lentzfuneralhome.com
Carol was born on June 23, 1931 in Humboldt to Frank and Marie Wier and attended Humboldt Schools graduating in 1949. After graduation she attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing becoming a registered nurse after graduation in 1952. Carol married the love of her life, Lloyd McBurney in 1951.
Carol was a lifelong member of Faith United Methodist Church and was active in Bible study and the knitting group, in addition to the local Red Hats and a card playing group. She enjoyed and continued in her various activities until loss of her eyesight made it impossible to continue. In spite of the loss of her eyesight she continued to knit making close to 100 hats for the cancer center in Fort Dodge as well as cotton dishcloths.
She is survived by her three children: Pam (David) Lerdal of Donalsonville, Georgia, Ronald McBurney of Norwich, Connecticut, and Vinona Christensen of Noblesville, Indiana. Grandchildren: Heather (Andrew) Fonfara of Valrico, Florida, Ann (Matthew) Talbert of Monticello, Illinois, Eric (Charlee) Lerdal of Boone, Iowa, Joel (Layne) Christensen of Rock Spring, Georgia, Rachel (John) Simons of Noblesville, Indiana, brother Bob Wier of Sedona, Arizona, and 13 Great Grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, her parents, brothers Joe and Marvin Wier, and son-in-law Todd Christensen.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Iowa Department for the Blind, 524 Fourth St., Des Moines, Iowa 50309.
