Carol Ann Carew was the eldest daughter of William E. Carew, Jr., of Wilmington DE and Rebecca Lee DeLane of Hickory NC. Educated in the Wilmington public schools, she was a 1963 graduate of Wellesley College with a major in Philosophy. She was also a member of Tau Zeta Epsilon Art and Music Society.
Carol was an incredible wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, scholar, teacher, organizer and friend and she will be deeply missed. She received a Master of Education in student personnel administration from Syracuse University where she met and in 1966 married her Ph.D. student husband, Eugene "Bill" McGregor. Their career travels began in 1968 with Bill's faculty appointment at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD, followed by his 1973 Indiana University-Bloomington appointment in the newly formed School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA, now the O'Neill School). Bloomington has been home for nearly 52 years.
Her career unfolded in phases. During her graduate student years, she was Director of Housing at Chatham College in Pittsburgh and director of Mt. Olympus, the Syracuse University women's residence hall complex. During her Maryland years, she became financial aid director at both Prince Georges and Howard County community colleges. Her Bloomington career began as faculty wife, mother and community volunteer and evolved into a fifteen-year career teaching advanced math at Bloomington High School South. In retirement, she supervised student teacher practicums for the IU School of Education.
She is survived by her husband and two married daughters, Kathryn (Kelly) Prescott McGregor (Chris Cato) of Geneva IL and Alison Carew McGregor (Steve Shermer) of Vienna VA; two grandsons, Eli McGregor Shermer and Zachary Nathan Shermer; two younger sisters, Joan Lukins of Danville KY and Sharon Mitchell of Marietta GA; a nephew, Josh Lukins (Ileana Contreras) of Lexington KY; and two nieces, Katie Lukins of Danville KY and Emily Wagner (Tom) of Tampa FL; and a half-brother, William E. Carew III.
Carol was active in the Bloomington community. As a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, she loved serving on church committees, teaching Sunday school, packing lunches for Wheeler Mission, and providing support for refugees. She also served as an officer in: Sorosis, Friday Musicale, League of Women Voters, and most recently, treasurer for the Bloomington Garden Club. She was a docent for many years at the IU Art Museum and very much enjoyed the game of golf and the matches organized by the IU Women's Golf Association as well as bridge games with both new and old friends. Finally, she was an enthusiastic supporter of her husband's career and particularly enjoyed being the art docent for the many students who traveled in SPEA's overseas study programs.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Memorial Fund (on the memo line) at First Presbyterian Church at Sixth and Lincoln (221 East Sixth Street, Bloomington 47408). A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 at FPC.

I've worked at the IU Art Museum, now Eskenazi Museum of Art, for 15 years in a front facing role. Carol was a wonderful person and a wonderful docent who gave excellent tours, and she was great with people of all ages. She was unfailingly warm and kind. She set a great example for others. It was a blessing to know her, and I will miss her.
