Carol Olsen, of Saint Augustine, passed away July 12, 2025, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring. She was 91 years young. My brother and I were with her and her passing was peaceful. Her life was full and well-lived. She was born March 15, 1934, in Miami, Florida to J. Wilbur and Maude Emerson Rodgers. At the time of her birth, she set a record for the shortest baby born at Jackson Memorial, 15 inches long! (everyone said she could fit in a shoebox!)
Carol attended Florida State University, majoring in education. It was there that she met the love of her life, Jim. They eventually married on June 21, 1957, and went on to have two children. Jesseca and Jimmy.
Carol was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years. She taught at numerous schools in Florida. After several moves with Jim being in the military, she relocated from Tampa to Tallahassee, then onto Fort Monroe, Virginia, as Jim was on active duty. After 4 years there, the family relocated to St. Augustine in the summer of 1979. She continued teaching with stints at Mill Creek Elementary and lastly R.B. Hunt Elementary, where she taught 3rd grade.
Carol retired in 1999. She and Jim enjoyed traveling to many places, both in the U.S. and abroad. Carol was a wonderful wife, Mother, Grandmother and great great-grandmother and friend to many! She was a fantastic cook, loved to entertain and go shopping, she especially loved shoes! She will be dearly missed.
Carol was preceded in death by her mother, father and brother, John Rodgers and her husband of 60 years, Jim Olsen whom she called "Na". She is survived by her daughter, Jesseca Olsen, St. Augustine; son James Olsen, Jr (Laura), Tallahassee; grandchildren, Diana Olsen and Margaret "Maggie" Smith (Landon) great grandsons Sawyer and Nolan, Tallahassee.
Services will be held, August 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park. For those unable to attend the service will be live streamed at https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/index.php?data=MTc1MzUzNTIyMDM3MzI1OSZvbmVyb29tLWFkbWluJmNvcHlfbGluaw==
Carol and Jim will be laid to rest together at the Tallahassee National Cemetery. Quite fitting as they met in Tallahassee and they will rest in Tallahassee, together again, forever.
