Carol Eileen Popp was born on March 23, 1938 in Windsor Colorado. She was the youngest child of Carl and Pauline Knaus. She joined a sister Doris.
Carol was raised on the family farm near Bridger, Mt. She was her dad's 'right hand man.' She preferred the outdoor chores over the indoor chores. She loved sharing stories of her and her sister's upbringing. The good and the not so good.
She received her education at the Round Butte School in the Bridger, Mt area.
Carol later met and married Jacob H. Popp in Billings Mt on June 21, 1953. Their courtship began at a roller skating rink where she taught lessons. They were married 67 years before Jake's passing in 2020.
Together they raised 5 children with unbiased love, support and encouragement. Carol also considered her son-in laws and daughter-in-laws her own children and treated them as such.
In 1959 they moved their growing family to Glendive, Mt where the settled and raised their 5 children, David, Gregory, Elizabeth, Paula and Janette on a 21 acre hobby farm with all the amenities.
Along with raising a family, Carol began a long, fulfilling career as a real estate broker. She excelled in her profession and made life long friends in the industry.
As a cancer survivor, she dove head first into volunteering on the Relay for Life and Hike for Hope Committees. The second she heard of a community member stricken with cancer, she made sure funds were sent for their needs. At Zion Lutheran, she taught Sunday school and later her and Jake volunteered their time in the furniture room. Carol was also a volunteer 4-H leader.
Carol was a life long member of the Buffalo Rapids Homemakers Club. She held numerous positions over the years and deeply treasured her club sisters and the work they accomplished for their community.
In the sporting world, her favorites included the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Braves, Nascar Racer Jimmy Johnson, and Tennis Star, Novak Djokavic. In the music industry, Brad Paisley stole her heart. Her favorite actor was Sidney Poitier.
Her passion for wild birds blew us away. She made sure through rain, sleet, hail and snow, the feeders were filled year round. They brought her much comfort in later days.
Carol's children and grandchildren kept her and Jake busy cheering them on at all their extra curricular activities. They spent countless hours at baseball and softball parks, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, and soccer fields.
She loved to put her thoughts on paper and shared those thoughts drafting monthly letters to her family's households. She kept them updated on the local happenings and current events. Occasionally she would add a joke or a quiz question, with the answer to the quiz question revealed in the following month's letter. These letters were mailed across town and across states. She kept the postal service in business. Her long time pen pal was Deb Moore and she cherished every letter received up to her passing. Deb's letters were addressed to "thee amazing Carol."
Carol was an excellent cook and baker. German recipes were a staple. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren having mastered her holiday German butterball soup.
Carol passed peacefully on April 7th, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. One of her favorite sayings was "lets get this show on the road" and in true Carol fashion, she did!
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jake, her parents Carl and Pauline, her sister Doris and her eldest sister Ruthie, whom passed before Carol was born.
She is survived by her children, David (Laurie) Popp, Gregory (Shelly) Popp, Elizabeth (David) Turner, Paula (Steve) Marx, Janette (Doug) Bogar.
Grand Children, Erin (Keith) Molyneaux, Ryan Popp, Drew Turner, Katie (Bo) Descheemaeker, Addison Marx, Regan Marx, Hannah Bogar and Carson Bogar.
Great Grandchildren, Paige, Alex, Luke, Owen, Paxton, Nixon and sister-in-laws Jean Short and Honey Jo Popp and her beloved nieces and nephews.
