Carol Dorris Rowe, a beacon of love and compassion, peacefully passed away at the age of 81 on July 1, 2024, in Canton, GA. Born on March 3, 1943, in Douglasville, GA, Carol's life was a testament to her tender, faith-filled spirit and her dedication to the communities she cherished.
An accomplished scholar, Carol was a proud graduate of Young Harris College and Women's College of Georgia, later achieving her Master's in Library Science at Vanderbilt University. Her passion for knowledge and education led her to a fulfilling career as a librarian for the Cherokee County Board of Education. For many years, she brought the joy of reading and learning to countless students at Teasley Middle School and R.M. Moore Elementary School.
Carol's commitment to service extended beyond her profession. As an active member of Waleska United Methodist Church and Canton Methodist Church, she offered her musical talents as a pianist and generously led Bible studies and book clubs. Her presence was a comforting light, an embodiment of the warmest welcome and an enduring laughter that resonated within the walls of both congregations.
A resident of Waleska since 1972, Carol immersed herself in the community life after moving with her late husband, Rev. Ronnie Rowe. Although faced with the hardship of his untimely death in 1974, her resilience and gentle strength flourished as she chose to make Waleska her forever home. She continued to inspire those around her through her love of reading, her nurturing of beautiful gardens, and her heartfelt investment in the lives of her colleagues and students.
Carol's memory will be cherished as one of loving grace, genteel kindness, and an unwavering faith that guided her through life's journey. Her legacy will live on in the countless hearts she touched with her humor and the many lives she shaped through her guidance and affection.
She is survived by her sons, Shawn Rowe (Susan), and Patrick Rowe (Paola Marani); grandchildren, Julia O'Brien, Caroline Rowe, Claire O'Brien, and Alexis Rowe; as well as beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Waleska United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Smith officiating. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to MUST Ministries of Cherokee County.
