The angels that surrounded our mother, Carol Ann Matney Slone, finally got to carry her home to her Savior on October 14, 2025 at Gordon Hospice House. Those that loved her lost so much at her passing, yet gained so much from her living.
Born on February 19, 1938 in Grayson County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ed Matney and Ila Hash Matney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend Avery Slone; daughter, Linda Gail Slone; grandson, Dillon Slone; sister, Marie Matney Houseman; and brothers, J.C. Matney, Bill Matney, and Danny Matney.
Carol dedicated many years working as an inspector for Thomasville Furniture Company before retiring. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Welcome In Christian Ministries. She was very creative and had a talent for sewing and quilting. She created many beautiful pieces that the family will forever cherish. Carol also enjoyed spending time outside gardening flowers.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Donald Ray Slone; daughters, Patricia Slone and Vicki (Danny) Slone; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jerry, Josh, Alex, Alyhia and Michael; great-grandchildren, Avery, Flora, Barron, Roland, Ivy, Lexy, Zachary, Hailey, Adam, Izabella, Bryson, and Kayden; sisters, Joan Lambert, Katy Clanton, and brothers, Richard Matney, and Rex “Butch” Matney, who will all miss her dearly.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Nicholson Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating Carol’s life will follow and begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Nicholson Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Kiser officiating.
