Carol A. (Swaboski) VanFleet 79 years, Dalton, died Tuesday, at home. Her loving husband of 56 years Robert "Pete" L. died December 13, 2022
Born June 28, 1945, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Stanley J. and Sophie Agnes (Zielinski) Swaboski who owned and operated the Station House Restaurant in Glenburn.
Carol was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School, Scranton. She worked in her family’s restaurant, and this is where she met the love of her life “Pete” and later they were married. She and her husband owned and operated VanFleet Drilling Company, Inc.
Carol was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Abingtons Church, where she volunteered and enjoyed the church’s Annual Fall Festival. A dedicated member of the Dalton Fire Company’s Auxiliary having served various offices and was the chairperson of the Monday night bingo. Active in the community, Carol supported and volunteered in activities with her sons, having served as a den mother for the Dalton Cub Scout Troop, supervised the concession stand for the Dalton Little League as her husband served as coach and president.
Surviving are three sons: Brian (Tammy) Brendan (Corinne), and Brett Van Fleet all of Dalton; 6 grandchildren that she adored Alexis, Tyler, Emily, Nick, Bryce, and Nate; 5 great grandchildren- Harper, Luke, William, Luna, and James, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Brenda, and three sisters Theresa Murphy, Violet Surowiec Fox, and Sr. Madeline Swaboski IHM.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of the aides (there are too many to mention by name) that provided care and companionship for Carol the past few years. A special thank you to the staff of Hospice of Sacred Heart who provided her with compassionate care during her final days.
The Funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian burial at 12:30 pm in Our Lady of the Abingtons, to be celebrated by Rev. Arbogaste Satoun, pastor. A The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday 9 am to 12 noon at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation services, Inc. Interment will be private in Delevan Farm Cemetery, LaPlume.
