John L. VanFleet

John L. VanFleet, 79, of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on December 4, 2025.

Born in Middletown, New York, John was the beloved son of the late John and Carmela VanFleet. A 1964 graduate of Middletown High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army shortly after graduation. During his service, he was wounded in combat and honorably discharged, receiving the Purple Heart in recognition of his bravery and sacrifice.

Following his military service, John began his career with Delford Industries before joining McLean Trucking, where he advanced to Terminal Manager in Brockton, Massachusetts. Later, he pursued entrepreneurship, successfully running multiple business ventures in Massachusetts and Florida until his retirement in the early 2000s.

In 1991, John settled on Ft. Myers Beach, where he embraced the Florida lifestyle for the next 34 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved boating, fishing, and hunting, and he cherished the year-round opportunities for beachside living. A lifelong fan of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers, John's passion for baseball was a constant throughout his life.

John is survived by his daughter, Kim M. VanFleet of East Wareham, MA; his son, Gregory J. VanFleet and daughter-in-law Gayle VanFleet of North Grafton, MA; four grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Carmela, and Nicholas; and one great-grandson, Cassius.

A private visitation was held on December 10 in Ft. Myers, Florida, to honor John's life. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
