Carole Louise Melton Olsen

Our dear mother, Carole Olsen, 82, of Greensboro, NC sadly passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025. She was born in New Middletown, IN to Denzil and Leora Melton.
Carole attended New Middletown Grade School and Corydon Central High School, where she graduated as a salutatorian in the Class of 1961. She was a member of the Tip Top 4-H Club, where she received many honors. She was very talented: she could paint, draw, and play the piano.
Carole moved to Washington, DC at the age of 17 to begin her lifelong career for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. After retiring from federal service, she moved to Greensboro to begin a new chapter and be close to family that she so loved.
Carole was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering much wisdom and love in abundance. She taught us to be strong, successful, independent women; caring mothers; and to live life with determination. Her devotion to her children and her grandchildren was unparalleled and will never be forgotten. Mom, we will dance.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband and father of her children, Eilef Olsen, her parents Denzil and Leora Melton, her brother William Melton, and half-brother Clarence Melton. She is survived by her children Nicole Gustafson (Magnus) and Robin Stevens (Todd); grandchildren Ruari, Liam, Adrian, Xavier, and Evryn; and her sisters Karen Troutman, Joyce Spalding, Denise Harmon, Penny Fessel, and Marilyn Wiggam. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home (318 East Chestnut Street, Corydon, Indiana) on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 11 a.m. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., and again after 9a.m until service time on Wednesday.
Burial will be at Salem UCC Cemetery in New Middletown, Indiana.
Pallbearers will be Adrian Stevens, Liam Gustafson, Magnus Gustafson, Todd Stevens, Bill Fessel, and Tim Harmon. Pastor Cameron Howard will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salem UCC Cemetery in New Middletown, IN.
