Caroline Brostad Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Mississippi Funeral Services on Feb. 2, 2026.
Caroline Avery Brostad, lovingly known as "Carol" and affectionately called "Bumma" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, 84 years young, of Biloxi, Mississippi, was called home by the Lord on January 24, 2026.

Carol was born on March 24, 1941, in Oakland, California, the daughter of Waldemar and Alverda Christofferson.

Carol lived a full, vibrant, and unapologetically bold life. Known for her fiery spirit and for never holding back, she was resilient, determined, and strong-willed. Those who knew her best often joked that she had more lives than a cat-and true to form, she fought bravely and faithfully until the very end.

She loved her soap operas, playing bingo, spending time with her grandchildren, and especially cherished the Christmas season, which was her favorite time of year.

In 1979, Carol became a Certified Long-Term Nursing Assistant in the state of California, where she lovingly cared for many residents in a local nursing home. In 1994, she and her youngest daughter, Ronda, opened their own business, C&R Cleaning. In 1998, Carol relocated to Oklahoma with her husband, where they enjoyed precious years with her eldest daughter Sharon and her family until her husband's passing in 2004. Carol later made her final move to South Mississippi, where she spent the remainder of her life surrounded by her youngest daughter, grandchildren, and eventually, great-grandchildren.

It was in South Mississippi that Carol found a true and unexpected blessing-a best friend named Vera. A beautiful reminder that there is no age limit on finding a soulmate in friendship, Carol and Vera became inseparable. They moved in together in 2024 and spent their days drinking coffee, playing cards, and making weekly trips to dominate the bingo boards. Their friendship was a gift, and their bond was something truly special.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Waldemer and Alverda Christofferson; her son, Mark Reindel; her husband, Jon Brostad; and her brothers, Donald Christofferson and Richard "Dick" Christofferson.

She is survived by her daughters, Ronda McCarty (Phillip) and Sharon Doss (Denny); her grandchildren, Carissa Starr (Trey), Erin Daly (Ryan), Jonathan McCarty (Kaitlyn), Angela Fowler (Brice), Jayme Doss, Shonda Noble (Donald), and Melanie Barrett (Phillip); along with 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her the utmost joy in life.

A small private and Intimate memorial service will be held for family and close friends.

We rejoice knowing that Carol is now at peace, resting in the presence of her Savior, reunited with the loved ones who went before her.

"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

- Matthew 11:28
