Caroline Grad, 93 Velva formerly of the Selz, ND area died on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at a Velva care center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2024 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Selz, ND. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 5 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Selz, ND.
Caroline was born on May 31, 1931 at home northeast of the former town of Clifton, ND. She was the daughter of George G. and Mary (Vetter) Hager. She grew up on the family farm helping with the chores around the house and farmwork. She attended rural school. Caroline married Walter Valentine Grad on November 5, 1951 in Selz. They lived northwest of Clifton, near the shores of Antelope Lake. Walter, Caroline and son Mark moved into Harvey in the early 1990's and to Burlington in 1997. Walter died on June 16, 2003. Caroline's and Mark's home was ruined in the flood of 2011 and they moved to Sawyer. She entered the Souris Valley Care Center in 2022. She was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva and St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Selz. Her hobbies included gardening and reading.
Caroline is survived by her two sons, Terry (Beth) Grad of Sawyer, Mark Grad of Minot;
2 grandchildren, Danny and Megan (Chad) Klimpel, 6 great-grandchildren, Kirland, Kailynn, Willow, Lily, Krymsyn, James; brother, Duane Hager of Federal Way, WA; sisters, Isabel Tessier of Federal Way, WA and Bernadine Brown, Puyallup, WA.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Myron and Curtis; brother, Romaldus "Rummy" Hager
