Carolyn Armstrong Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors & Crematory on Dec. 5, 2023.
Carolyn Ann (Meriwether) Armstrong was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 18 th,
1953, to the late Clifford Clarence Meriwether, Sr. and Rose Ann (Clay) Edmonds. At a
very young age it was apparent Carolyn was a special young lady, a devoted daughter
and a positive example to her younger siblings. She truly loved her family, adored her
grandmother, friends and humbly dedicated her life to the service of others, while
seeking nothing in return.
Carolyn graduated from East High School in Des Moines, IA. She continued her
education and received her bachelor's degree from Central College in Pella, IA. and her
master's degree from the University of Phoenix.
Carolyn met her husband, Henry, in 1996 and they were united in marriage on June 28,
1997, in Colorado Springs, spending 26 years together nurturing and growing their love
for one another.
Carolyn proudly taught the 1 st and 2 nd grades during her 32-year tenure at Monterey
Elementary School in Colorado Springs. She absolutely enjoyed cultivating young
enthusiastic minds. She was also voted Teacher of the Year in 2003.
Carolyn was a dedicated member of True Spirit Baptist Church for many years and
continued her gift of instruction by teaching the adult Sunday School class. It was in this
house of worship she formed many friendships that spanned across countless years.
Carolyn was a HUGE Denver Broncos fan. When she wasn't cheering for her team on
game day, you would find her relaxing with a good book or listening to R&B and gospel
music. Carolyn was also a member of one of the oldest Greek-lettered organizations
established by African American, college educated women, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Inc. (AKA).
Carolyn went peacefully to her eternal home on November 29 th, 2023. She joins both
her father, Clifford Clarence and her mother Rose Ann along with maternal and paternal
grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends.
Carolyn's memory continues to live on through her loving husband, Henry Armstrong,
Jr. of Colorado Springs. Her doting stepfather, Robert Edmonds of Des Moines, IA. Her
adoring brother and long-distance driving partner, Clifford Meriwether, Jr. of Denver,
CO. Her two loving sisters, Margenele Carroll of Des Moines, IA and Grace (Milton)
Keyes of Kent, WA. Cherished mother-in-law, Cornelia Armstrong of Albany, GA.
Brother in laws, Walter and Stephen Armstrong of Washington, DC and Tennessee
respectively. Sister in-laws, Arie Armstrong, Rosa Mitchell, Henri Green and Karen
Jackson, all residing in Albany, GA and Nancy Armstrong of Atlanta, GA. Also left to
cherish her memory is her Aunt Dannese Flennoy of Aurora, IL. Uncle John (JT)
Meriwether of St. Louis. MO. Uncle Clemell (Ruth) Edmonds of Brinkley, AR. Her
extended bonus family member, Carolyn Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews,
treasured cousins and phenomenal friends.
