Carolyn June Gladding, at the age of 91, passed away January 29, 2024. Born in
Ionia, Michigan on January 3, 1933. She attended Cedar Lake Academy school and graduated in 1951. She then met the love of her life, Howard Arthur Gladding in
Ionia, Michigan and were married on June 1, 1953. They were happily married for 61 years.
Carolyn was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist church in
Traverse City, Michigan. Her church meant everything to her. She was faithful her whole life. God was #1 in her life. Every Saturday mom made an effort to take her kids to church no matter if we were at home or at the cottage.
Carolyn worked for years as a secretary alongside her husband, Howard who was the broker/owner of their real estate company from 1961 to 2014. While working alongside her husband, being a homemaker was important to her (raising their 4 children, Julia, Michael, Suzanne and Kris).
They had their first cottage on Houghton Lake approximately 1965-1970. Then got their cottage on Long Lake about 10 miles North of
Ionia, Michigan and spent the weekends there during the summer and winter. At the cottage they took their children boating, fishing, skiing, had bonfires together having s'mores, went snowmobiling, sledding, ice skating, ice fishing, had annual work parties there. They were always inviting other family members and friends there to join in on the fun. There were so many great memories.
Carolyn was the greatest cook and baker. She was known for her homemade bread, soups, spaghetti, applesauce, pizza, and Christmas sugar cookies with vanilla frosting and the most delicious cheesecake. It was very important to her that her husband and children always pray and eat dinner together every night at 6pm. She loved attending family reunions, taking family trips, and enjoyed helping others.
Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend that will be missed dearly by all that knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Frances Christensen; sister, Kathleen Snow; grandson, (Jonathan Ferree); granddaughter, (Chelsea Weymouth) and the late son-in-law, Roger Weymouth. Carolyn is survived by children, Julia (Darrell) Ferree, Mike (Lorena) Gladding, Sue (Keith) DeBarr and Kris Weymouth; grandchildren, Christy Ferree, Deidre Ferree, Eric (Amy) Gladding, Kyle (Stephanie) Gladding, Bryce Gladding, Sara (Jerot) Goodman, Candice Yeager-Stanek (Dustin Stanek), Brooks Brewer, Katie (Kyle) Zemsta, Keith (Brandy) DeBarr, Madisyn Weymouth and Damen Weymouth; great grandchildren, Julia Ferree, Lillian DeBarr and Autumn DeBarr, Apollo Weymouth, Evelyn Gladding, Luke Gladding and Haley Goodman.
