Carolyn Dorothy Nelson passed away in Ogden, Utah, on July 25, 2024, at the age of 74. She was born July 17, 1950, in Tremonton, Utah, to Emery LeGrande Nelson and Dorothy Leona Heath.
She lived in Tremonton and Brigham City, Utah, throughout her life.
Carolyn attended McKinley Elementary School, Bear River Jr High School, and Bear River High School. She went on and pursued her education at Utah State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Education. She was also a certified Medical Transcriptionist.
She taught school at McKinley, Central, and North Park elementary schools and did transcription for McKay Dee Hospital and IHC. After many years of employment, Carolyn retired from the Box Elder School District.
Carolyn received the KSL teacher of the year award. She loved traveling, especially with her nieces and nephews to Lincoln City, Oregon, Yellowstone National Park, and Disneyland. She was an avid reader, loving mysteries. Carolyn was an amazing pianist and could also play by ear. She loved to sing and was in a trio with Sharon and Gwen at several family funerals.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She played the organ and piano for choir and church and taught Primary, Relief Society, and Sunday School. She and her mom did extractions for family history. Carolyn loved her cats, in fact she loved all animals and wanted to save them all.
Carolyn is survived by her sister Sharon (Jerry) Johnsen; nephews Eric Nelson, Jeremy (Tim) Nelson, and Christopher (Danielle) Johnsen; her favorite niece Andrea (Benjamin) Greenhalgh; great nieces and nephews Hannah, Ian, Sadie, Cael, Rebekah, Coraline, Emily, and Rylie. Carolyn loved her nephews and niece and the greats very much. She was always a support and truly a 2nd mom and grandma to them. They will miss her very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and brother Dennis as well as her sister-in-law Karen and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 2 P.M. Viewings will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 6-7 P.M and prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 P.M. All services will be held at Rudd Funeral Home (111 N 100 E- Tremonton). Interment will take place in the Penrose Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed below.
A special thanks to all the many health care providers who have cared for Carolyn over the years, especially Kendra, MT, and Joseph at McKay Dee Hospital for their kind, loving, and compassionate care they provided in her last days. You will be forever in our hearts.
