Carolyn Pierce Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 19, 2025.
Carolyn "Susie" Pierce, 84, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Carolyn was born in Lester, West Virginia and moved to Wilmington, Delaware, when she was 13 years old. She was the daughter of the late John and Lola (Hawley) Overbay.

She graduated from Conrad High School and began a career in the banking industry, working at Colonial Bank and Delaware Trust. She later worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield for several years before working at the law firm of Pepper, Hamilton and Scheetz. Carolyn was known for her great work ethic and motivation.

She was a dedicated mother and especially good at advocating for her daughter, who experienced a multitude of health issues. After retiring she moved to Selbyville in order to be near her favorite people in the world, her three grandchildren. She enjoyed watching them play sports and participate in an array of activities. They made her world go 'round.

Carolyn volunteered with the Lion's Club of Fenwick Island and made friends along the way. Also, she loved her many "pet friends", to include George, an orange tabby that was in dire need of a home.

She was predeceased by her husband, Galen J. Pierce; daughter, Nancy Lou Youngblood Nutter; younger sister, Linda; brother, John; brother-in-law, Larry; and her special friend, Vito Matarese. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy L. Youngblood Condon (Charles); grandchildren, Olivia, Liam and Gavin; son-in-law, Glenn Nutter; sisters, Yvonne Davis and Sherron Guyer; brother-in-law, Richard Nail (Virginia); multiple nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

A graveside service will be held at Silverbrook Cemetery, 3300 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, Delaware on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
