Carolyn Cole Ranney, 90, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2025 under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born June 28, 1935 to the late Henry Leaman and Thelma (Newell) Cole.
Carolyn was a graduate of Owensboro High School, Murray State College, and Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital School of Nursing. She continued her career as a Unit Surgical Supervisor for a number of years at the hospital and later retired as a Nursing Instructor at Owensboro Vocational Technical School. After retirement, she enjoyed working in volunteer positions with children and with the elderly.
She was an active member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church where she taught children's Sunday school class and sang in the Sanctuary Choir.
Carolyn enjoyed flower gardening, reading, sports and embroidery. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her sons and their families. She dearly loved being with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Otto Martin Ranney in September 2025; a precious granddaughter, Katherine Lee Ranney; and a sister, Donna Burklow.
Survivors include her sons, Michael Ranney (Peggy), Guy Ranney (Clift) and Patrick Ranney (Debbie); grandchildren, Meredith Ranney Pinto (Kevin), Morgan Ranney; great-grandchildren, Henry and Arthur Pinto; and a sister, Sharon Casebier.
The service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, October 13 at Rosehill Cemetery Chapel. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
