Carolyn Ruby Obituary
December 8, 1933 - August 17, 2025
Carolyn J. Ruby, age 91, of Council Bluffs, passed away peacefully at her home on August 17, 2025. Carolyn was born December 8, 1933, in Council Bluffs to the late Paul F. and Illa C. (Jacoba) Ramsey. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1953. Carolyn attended Omaha School of Practical Nursing (St. Joseph Hospital) and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing graduating with her Nursing Degree. She married Robert L. Ruby and to this union 8 children were born. Carolyn worked for the VNA for 2 years; Mercy Hospital for 25 years and then she owned and operated Nursing Referral Agency for 8 years. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Ruby in 1985, sons, Paul Ruby and Robert (Sherry) Ruby, Jr., daughters, Peggy (George) DeSantiago, Tammy Yochum, great-grandson, Jonathan Ruby; siblings, Mary Ellen Ramsey, Illa Jarrard, Marjorie Cross, Shirley Hiers, and Paul T. Ramsey. Carolyn is survived by her children: Carolyn J. "Kitty" (Eddie) Sharearm, Al (Cindy) Ruby, Kelly (Pam) Ruby, William (Sue) Ruby; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Joseph Yochum; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family, Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Friday, 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home with nursing honors tendered by the Mercy Hospital Honor Guard. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery with a lunch following at the Walnut Hill Reception Center, 1350 E. Pierce St. The family will direct memorial contributions.
