Mrs. Carrie L. McBride, a beloved matriarch, devoted mother, and cherished member of the Gulfport community, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, at the age of 101.
Born on October 3, 1923, to Henry and Mary Matthews, Carrie grew up in Vicksburg, MS. She married Theodore R. McBride and began a life in Gulfport. They had two sons, Terence and Christopher. Carrie was a member of Riley Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully in the church's ministries, such as the choir and several women's groups, such as United Methodist Women. She also served her community with the Court of Calanthe that ran the food bank at the Knights of Pythias Hall and the Handsboro Civic Club. Her life of service began early with a kindergarten that she ran from her home on Victory Street. She was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts, which Rip Daniels remembers fondly. A woman of many talents (seamstress, cook, nurse) Carrie worked at the VA Hospital in Biloxi and Gulfport until her retirement.
She is preceded in death by her husband Theodore, her mother and father Mary and Henry Matthews, her sister Katrina, and her grandson Christopher Julius (CJ).
She leaves to mourn her passing her sons Terence R. McBride (Loretta) and Christopher L. McBride (Sharon), a special niece Dejuana Kaye Vaughn, two grandchildren: Marlon Gregory McBride (Twyla) and Tiffany McBride; three great grandchildren: Matthew McBride, Princeton Temple, and Christien J. McBride, adopted sons Aubrey Moore (Betty) and Tony Hawthorne and a host of relatives and friends.
