Carroll 'Cary' W. Sunderhaus

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Cary William Sunderhaus passed away at home and entered the kingdom of Heaven on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the age of 73.

Cary leaves behind his loving wife Jane Sunderhaus (nee Ahrens), daughters Jill Gibson (nee Sunderhaus) and Lindsey Sunderhaus, cherished granddaughter Zoey Paige Gibson, soon-to-be son-in-law Jason Kiefer, and his beloved dog Archie.

Cary is also survived by his siblings René Shumard (nee Sunderhaus), Ted Sunderhaus (Barb Fath), Rick Sunderhaus (Jennifer), Lael Lovins (Craig), Michael Marlowe, Bobby Marlowe (Sandi), sister-in-law Melissa Marlowe, brother-in-law Mark Ahrens, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Cary was preceded in death by his father Carroll Sunderhaus, mother Phyllis Dawn Wrocklage Marlowe, sister Ann Marlowe, brother Beau Marlowe, brother-in-law Phil Shumard, and sister-in-law Beverly Ahrens.

Cary was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 21, 1951. He was the eldest of nine siblings who grew up raising all kinds of shenanigans on Windy Hill Farm on Klondyke Rd. in Milford, Ohio, amongst the many horses, cats, dogs, and chickens. Cary graduated from Milford High School in 1969 and studied at the University of Cincinnati before joining the family business at Frazier-Williams Chevrolet & Oldsmobile, beginning his lifelong career in sales.

Cary was truly an original and unique character in every sense of the word. He was outgoing, charismatic, caring, hard-working, generous, helpful, loyal, loving, and loved spreading joy to others with his unparalleled sense of humor. While his health had been declining for the past several years, his sense of humor, zest for life, and love for family, friends, and all things Disney never waned. Cary never met a stranger and once you were his friend, you were friends for life. He loved and had memorized hundreds of jokes, and would frequently entertain strangers and call his family and friends with the joke of the day. Cary never forgot to call to wish a happy birthday or anniversary, often in song.

Cary's all-time hero was Walt Disney and he enjoyed making magical memories with his family on yearly trips to Walt Disney World. At home, Cary loved watching movies with the family, feeding and watching the birds while drinking his morning coffee, grilling out on the patio, enjoying quality time and telling funny stories with the family, spoiling his granddaughter, entertaining friends and family (especially bartending on New Year's Eve), and driving his classic red 1953 MG. He hated squirrels with a passion because they messed with his bird feeders, ate all the seed, and scared the birds away.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

There will be a visitation on Tuesday, December 17th at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45230.

Visitation from 4:00 to 6:00pm

Service to follow at 6pm

For those who wish to attend, a celebration of life will follow the service at The American Legion Post 318 (6660 Clough Pike, Cincinnati 45244) beginning at 6:45pm.
