Carroll Coleman Hughes Sr.

Carroll Coleman Hughes, Sr. was born May 28, 1943 to the late
Joseph B. and Edna Mae Hughes. He was called home to eternal rest on
Thursday, October 27, 2022. He joined his late wife, Mildred Jean (Webb)
Hughes and late son, Anthony B. Hughes, along with his brother, Joe
Hughes, and sisters, Margaret Ann (Hughes) Dunham and Rocelia Hughes
(Jones).
Having confessed his love for Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at
an early age, he united with First Baptist Church, now First African Baptist
Church, under the pastorate of the late Reverend Nutter.
Carroll was raised at 800 Florence Avenue and was a graduate of the
original Douglass High School where he was a Basketball Standout. After
school he joined the United States Air Force, and was a proud Veteran after
his years of service to his country.
Carroll retired from Trane Company after 37 years of dedicated
employment. Never one to sit down for too long, he was also a long-time
Fayette County School custodian and a greeter at Walmart. Carroll had no
enemies, he smiled at everyone he met and would enjoy a long conversation
with even a stranger.
Carroll is survived by his daughter, Cecila E. Hughes; two sons,
Carroll C. (Donnita K.) Hughes, Jr. and Joseph S. Hughes; along with many
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, as well as a host of cousins, friends and a
loving church family.
