Carroll Sutherland

Carroll P Sutherland "Sully" born in Galax, VA on Feb. 19, 1941 and peacefully passed away Oct. 31, 2024. He and his family relocated to the state of Georgia in the late 70's.
He was a devout Christian, all family feasts and gatherings he proudly led with the most eloquent of prayers. He was beyond affectionate (BEST HUGS EVER), determined, dedicated, and a hardworking individual. He loved to work with his hands and always staying busy never slowing down all the way to the end. He worked at his dad's garage and became a great mechanic. Driven to learn more he quickly became the man that could always fix anything. He was a proud service member of the United States Air Force. He was a successful engineer completing much of the skyscrapers that now fills the skyscapes of Atlanta, GA (specifically the Georgia Pacific Building and the Marriot Marquis). Yes, we were reminded every trip through the city that all of his kid's names are etched in the concrete on top of those buildings. He loved to go bass fishing with his lifelong friend Larry Van Hoy. The man loved everything about air planes; be it flying with his pilot's license, building and ultimately just admiring. He was an avid reader on anything to do with aviation, science, astronomy and space exploration topics. He was a self-taught amazing guitar player. He loved to play, sing and really loved all music. Above all, there was absolutely nothing he wouldn't have done for his family putting all their needs before his own. To say the world is better for having him in it is an understatement.
Carroll is survived by his wife, Sandra Sutherland, of 46 years, and their four children, Melissa "Missy" Sutherland; Philip Sutherland; Tracy "Trace" Kennedy-Felker and her late husband Willie Felker, and Brian Robinson; three grandchildren Hunter Kennedy-Felker (wife Hope Felker); Justin Martin; Taylor Gibbons.
He is preceded in death by his father Tom Jefferson Sutherland and his mother Virginia Edith Sutherland, and siblings Wayne Sutherland (brother) and wife Kasena Sutherland; Tommy Sutherland (brother) and wife Debbie Sutherland.
His surviving siblings include Harold Dean (brother) and his wife Anne Sutherland; Kenneth (brother) and his wife MaryAnn (deceased) Sutherland; Barbara (sister) and her husband Jimmy (deceased) Russell and Debbie (sister) and her husband Dewayne Creed, numerous nieces, nephews, lifelong friends Larry (deceased) and Pat Van Hoy and many more friends; all who mourn his loss
Everyone is welcome to attend the viewing service at 12:00 (noon), and the memorial service in the Chapel at 2:00 pm, on the 6th of November 2024, at Mc Donald & Son Funeral Home (150 Sawnee Dr. Cumming, GA 30040).
