Carter Callan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ramsey Funeral Home & Crematorium on Oct. 4, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Carter Clyde Callan peacefully went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

Carter was born on September 24, 1961, in Valley Mills, Texas and raised in Liberty Hill and Florence Texas. Carter and Angel shared a lifetime of love, memories and crazy antics and were married just short of 30 years.

Carter was a man of few words, and when he spoke, it was with honor and integrity. His strength was unimaginable, but His heart was soft. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, team roping, bull riding, building a business with his sons of wood working, post sales, land clearing, fence and tank building. And oh, how he loved raising his cattle. Carter spent more time alone with God and nature than we will ever fully understand. His work ethic surpassed all others, and it showed how he led his family.

Carter took extreme honor and pride in his Family, and he raised amazing sons, who he was so proud of. He built a legacy in his family that will never end.

His family includes: Cahill Callan and fiancé Kelsey Blakely of Andice, TX; Cutter Callan and wife Madeline of Florence, TX; Terrell Lee of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his daughter, Jessie Colter McKenzie of Bristow, Oklahoma. Carter's heart was so full with his new fishing and hunting buddy, his pride and joy, his grandson, Coy Carter Callan of Florence, TX.

Carter's family was so large: sister in love, Kana Guthrie Bayer of Liberty Hill , TX; brother, Andy Burkett and wife Connie of Liberty Hill; sister, JoAnne McLaughlin of Lott, TX; brother-in-law, Brandon Roberts and wife Brandy of Kempner, TX; sister-in-law, Jacey Garson and husband Brandon from Chehalis, Washington State; brother, Daryl Gray and wife, Debbie of Florence, TX; mother-in-law, Lisa Roberts of Salado, TX; aunt and uncle, Debbie and Gene Rampy of Liberty Hill, TX; along with numerous cousins, nieces , nephews, and wonderful friends, too many to list.

Carter was Preceded in death by his father, Jerry Von Callan; mother, Patsy Ann Mather Gray; father-in-law Larry Gray; grandfather, Charlie Lindell "Huldy" Mather; and grandmother, May Ozell "Rexie" Duncan Mather.

Pallbearers include: Glen Ragsdale, Eddie Easter, Johnny Brizendine, Johnny Bud Lane, James Lane, Anthony Williams, Gary Hall, Billy Greene, James Earl Johnson, Roy Dale Liefester, Brandon Roberts, Clanie Stiles, Jeff Daniel, Kevin Conley, Mark Browder, Keith Kimbro, Kent Talley, Roger Smith and Richard McLaughlin.

A time of visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025 in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home. 5600 Williams Dr, Georgetown, TX 78633.

The Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Maxdale Cowboy Church, 2754 Briggs Rd, Killeen, TX 76549.

Burial to follow at the Mather Cemetery, 2450 CR 236, Liberty Hill, TX.

Everyone is invited to Lunch at The First Baptist Church, 106 College St., Florence TX.

Following lunch, Carter had requested a party upon leaving the hospital, and those that knew him, knew this was not a normal request. He requested a reunion of friends and family because he was "going home"! So, there will be a Celebration of Life that evening at Keith's Place in Florence.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Florence FCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Students, of which Carter so wholeheartedly loved and supported. Please make checks payable to: FHS, FCA (with FCA notated on the memo line).

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
