Carter Stalvey Obituary

STALVEY (Richardson), Carter

Carter Stalvey, age 78, passed on March 15, 2025. She was born in 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of Mary Carter and Harry Lee Richardson II. She had a brother, Harry Lee Richardson III; and sister, Beth Ingle.

Carter graduated from Lovett School in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1964, and attended the University of Georgia. At UGA she wrote for the college newspaper The Red and Black, was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and an honorary journalism fraternity. She graduated with a degree in Journalism in 1968.

Carter made her debut with the Atlanta Debutante Club at the Piedmont Driving Club where she joined the Atlanta Junior League in 1968. Carter and Wray Stalvey married in 1970 and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. Carter's volunteer work began in North Carolina, where she served on the Board of Directors for The Women's Center, where she won volunteer of the year for her work with RSVP, a senior citizen's group. Carter and Wray lived in Raleigh for eight years.

Carter worked for Coca Cola in the West Coast office, and managed Media Services for a territory including Alaska, Hawaii, Utah, and Montana, and Idaho. She was promoted to lead her department Media Services for Coke USA in the early 1980s and remembered fondly her trips with Coca Cola – Alaska, Hawaii, the Academy Awards, and the Grammys. Carter moved back to Atlanta, where she bought her first home and her first dog Oreo. Her last project with Coca Cola was "Project Kansas" the top secret planning team for New Coke.

Carter retired in 1991, and enjoyed her garden club, the Habersham Garden Club, where she was a third generation and later sponsored her nephew Hap Richardson IV's wife, a fourth generation. She volunteered at Slater Elementary School and Meals on Wheels. She was a Stephens Minister at First Presbyterian Church. Above all she valued time with her garden club, her church, her dogs, and her family. Her family was her sister Beth Ingle, her nephew "Hap" Harry Lee Richardson IV, nieces Robyn Richardson and Kimball Thomas, and her grandniece Rosie Windibank, and grandnephew Liam Thomas.

She was predeceased by her sister, Beth Ingle.

Her Celebration of Life will be at First Presbyterian Church, Atlanta.

The family would like to thank the Habersham Garden Club, First Presbyterian Church, Boog Candler, Susan Higley, Kathleen Lewis, Carter Brandigi, and all who loved her.

Carter was a neighbor when I moved to Buckhead 4 years ago. We enjoyed sharing dinners and stories of our dogs.
