Cary Foster

CARY FOSTER, 58, of Anchorage, Alaska, Flew West on August 31, 2024, at hunting camp, south of McGrath. Born in Washington, but lived in Alaska for nearly 40 years. He was a true Alaskan. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a crew chief on helicopters in Kodiak Alaska. He then had a stint in Washington as deputy sheriff before moving back to Alaska, working as an aircraft mechanic and commercial pilot who probably in one form or another had a hand or finger in many general aviation aircraft throughout Alaska. He guided everything from king salmon on the Kenai River, brown bear on the Kodiak islands and Iliamna, sheep in the Alaska Range, caribou on the North Slope, and moose all over our great state of Alaska, he was always looking forward to helping someone bag a grand animal and have a great time. As a bear guide, he proudly contributed to episodes of Deadliest Hunts alongside his co-conspirator the late Bob Cusack. Cary's motto was to enjoy fishing, hunting, and flying, what else is there? He recently became an honored member of the Big Game Commercial Services Board of Alaska. He established many aircraft STCs, and received the Alaska Mechanic of the Year award by the Alaska Air Carriers Association. Most of all, he was a loving, caring family man and friend who will be forever missed by countless others. Cary is survived by his wife Sharmaine Vestal, his son Casey Foster and wife Lauren, daughter Kelsey Copeland, son Levi Stallings and wife Jamie, grandchildren Connor, Luke, Bridger, Darla, and Seeley, father and mother Gary and Jan Foster, sister Jeanne Foster, and husband Mark Gehring, niece Maddy, brother Chris Foster and wife Yvonne, niece Jalynn, father and mother-in-law Harvey and Vernita Vestal, sister-in-law Cathleen Mala and husband Ted, many more family members, and lastly his dog Blue. Visitation will be held privately with family. Celebration of Life will be held early evening September 21, 2024 at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.
