Caryl Jean Hulsizer Beach, 96 of Grand Ledge, passed away on August 6 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born March 16, 1929 in Menominee, Michigan to the late Michael and Hannah (Thoney) Hulsizer. Caryl graduated from Stephenson High School in 1947. After high school she attended Northern Michigan University and was awarded a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1951. After graduation, Caryl taught elementary school for many years in school districts throughout Michigan including Birmingham, Escanaba, Lansing, and Grand Ledge. She and her husband of 64 years, Kenneth, built their family home and raised their children in Wacousta. In retirement, Caryl and Ken enjoyed summers in Michigan's U.P, near her childhood home. They wintered in Arizona where they made many special memories with Caryl's cousin Larry Thoney and his wife Nancy. Caryl's favorite pastime was watching baseball. Her love of the sport began when she attended the Stephenson vs. Daggett town games as a teenager and continued throughout her life. Her favorite team was the Detroit Tigers. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family. Caryl was a devout Roman Catholic and a parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand Ledge. Caryl was preceded in death by her loving husband Kennneth. Surviving are the couple's five children, Kevin (Julie), David (Mary), Lisa (Tom) Stuecken, Nola (Greg) Cockroft, and Keene; 12 grandchildren, Aron (Carrie), Paige (Jason), Allison, Kelsey (Joey), Tristan, Trevor (Fatima), Victoria (Abraham) Behr, Travis (Alkisti), Nicholas (Kelly) and Amanda Cockroft, Chad and Benjamin Stuecken, 15 great grandchildren; Isla, Calvin, Winnie, Brayden, CJ, Ty, Antonio, Jade, Alina, Talia, Genevieive, Lawrence, Franklin, Peter, and Rowan and her brother Robert (Sue) Hulsizer. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother Loren (Ann) Hulsizer and great granddaughter Harper. Funeral services will be celebrated at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Grand Ledge on Monday, August 11. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am with a funeral mass following at 11:00 am. Luncheon to follow with burial after at Wacousta Cemetery.
